My daughter is getting ready to turn 16 January 1st. Just went and picked up her a car that we are going to surprise her with on Christmas. Tie the big red bow on it and daddy will be king for at least 30 days! She has been a good girl and she deserves it!
She is going to shit when she sees it! I have been prepping her with the notion she is going to get a piece of crap car for her first vehicle till she shows me she wont wreck it!
It is a 99 Montero Sport with 18" wheels. I am putting in an alarm and stereo with a JL 10 and JL 6.5 coaxes tommorrow!
I guess I am just a big ol softie! :D

Daddy....J/K. You're blessed with a good kid so spoil her--she'll be safer in that big car, too. Now go get another job to pay for the insurance premiums... :D :D

Insurance is not to bad. Only $519 every 6 months.
BTW you are right she is a great kid. Better than I would have a right to expect and damn sure better than I deserve!!!!!!!!

Just drove 700 miles to pick it up in Denver. About 700 miles from here and I got about 18 miles to the gallon. So not to bad. But not to good.

Congrats to her, my oldest turns 16 in Feb, and is already telling me which car she's going to drive, she says the Mustang, I told her which car she WANTS to drive and that she NEEDS to ask instead of demand, she'll get to anyway but it was the way she just told me this is how its gonna be that got me po'ed.

I just went through it with my kid.. She got her permit, I got her a car for her bday.. (used) and now she has her license.. keep in mind she is a great kid too. Im very proud of her. So.. the Fear that sets in when she started driving on her own..
all I saw in my head was.. her playing with the stereo with a car load of kids on the cell phone.. Along with the lack of experience on the road..
scared the hell out of me..
She is a good driver.. but kids are kids..me included..lol
Thank god for a provisional license.
all though .. it does not mean that they will follow the rules.. :(
All I can do is explain the laws and the re percussions of not following them.. and hope she makes the right decision.
Good luck with your girl.. its a real proud moment in every dads life .. but sad just the same
I got the big ribbon for her and surprised her.. Make sure to take lots of pictures.. :D

The fear is already creeeping up on me. At the start we are not going to allow her to have more than one person in the car with her. But still the cell phone stereo scares the crap out of me.

Life isn't fair..
I had to buy my first truck myself.. (If course I got what I wanted too :) ) I didn't even start driving (legally) until I was 19 and I needed something to tow my boat with :D
Sounds like you're a great dad Beyonghelpin. She will be happy for sure.

I know how you guys feel! My daughter turns 16 in a few months, she's already showing me stuff she likes. We don't really wanna throw a lotta cash around right now, so the most economical thing is to let her drive my truck(which mostly sits, except for weekends)for a while till she gets a job. Unfortunately, it's also my tow rig. Know EXACTLY how you feel about the stereo, cell phone bizz. On the other hand, she's pretty excited about getting it so it makes me real happy to put her in it for a while. Nothing like seeing the little girl smile!

That's awesome! I did the same thing for my daughters and I was king for 31 days. Might I suggest (if you already haven't done so) teach her all that goes with pride of ownership, like checking and changeing the oil, coolant, etc. My daughters have thanked me over and over for taking the time to teach them.

Tell me about it! I preached for a little bit about all the crap I drove at first, my very first car being a 1980 Ford Country Squire wagon, fake wood and all! But, I gotta say, many fond memories tied to that old wagon.
I figure this way, I get to break the cycle and be cool for a little while.

I have you all beat. My first car was a '63 Lincoln Continental with suicide doors, Olive green and rust. Ran like crap and cost a fortune in gas and would diesel everytime I shut it off. Oh, and when it ran, it hauled ass.

Thanks for the kind words guys!
That is my biggest job in life...........to be a good dad! Whether its make her cry tears of joy or pain . I personally prefer the joy though.
Close second job in life ...............Gotta give momma regular injections of joy!!!! :p :hammer2:  :D

Michelle hams it up in South Beach. Not to shabby for 43 and no work done. Well not to her face anyway. The other was done for me anyway! Size matters!!!

Shelby is QT, i think you'll have more to worry about than her drving, all the guys trying grab her attention as she drives down the road!!! Not to mention when she goes driving with Mom, asking if thats her sister :p ,
Took my daughter driving last night in the truck, shes all over the road , then gets mad at herself telling me shes forgotten how to drive, it had been something like three days since she last was behind wheel, kids are so funny.....MVG

You said it all:
Buy your kid a car, get their respect for 30 days.
Empower them to buy their own car, get their respect for life.

My youngest turned 16 couple weeks ago. Been hammering on me to let her drive the GTO. (483ci, close to 500hp) Right now she's driver the new beetle. When they want thier own car, they gatta buy it thier self. In the meantime, let them drive all my toys.
