As we have begun the process of building the new 2005 model changes, I had our first chance to take a new boat out on the water yesterday for some trial runs.
As a result of a 0.5 inch change in the X-dimension of the Outdrive placement on the transom we were able to squeeze out another 3-4mph. While this may not seem like a huge amount of speed, everybody always wants MORE at the top end.
It was interesting to note the huge impact of the proper prop. Don't underestimate the value of testing a couple different props on your boat.!
In our case we tried 3 different props yesterday behind a 496Mag engine.
22 Pitch = 60.4mph GPS
23 Pitch = 65.3mph GPS
24 Pitch = 66.7mph GPS
The next step will be to build up another test boat with a 496Mag HO and Tabs on it. Previously we were only getting 67mph out of our HO configuration. I now expect we will get something in the 71-72mph range instead. The goal is coax her to 75mph. Will be fun to see if we can do it or not.

Just curious, what were the rpm's with the tested props at the given speeds?

Sounds like decent speeds I would think.
Keep up the good work and reporting on it, it's interesting stuff.

Slow but sure.
I got my first look at the new Fiberglass Inner-Liner for the boat yesterday.
Should have the first hull with a non-carpeted floor in a couple weeks.
One step at a time we ARE building the boat with the features everyone asked for here in the forum.

CP,
those are good speeds for a large boat with that motor. Congrats.
Lab that 24P and you could see a tad more maybe.

I would venture to guess 3 if everything was right

I've seen Lab Finishing scrub some speed off or do nothing at all. It all depends on how good the stock one was. You can get lucky and have a good stock prop also.

Like BF said, if done right, you should be able to get 200-300 more rpm. So, whatever that equates to.
