Thought this was pretty cool. My 13 yr old son did 95% of the work today while pulling the motor. I just handled the photo documentation part. I even let him handle the hoist work. That part was a little scary, but he did real well and my $600 oil pan is still undented.
The last of the mounting hardware.

Anybody need a mechanic? I'll rent him out for a reasonable fee. Another couple years and he's gonna blow right past the old man.
Hopefully flip her tomorrow so I can start on the bottom work.

That's cool. My oldest is seventeen and he isn't really in to the mechanical stuff but would rather play his guitar and do the rock band thing, but my two girls who are 13 and 7 love to do anything I am doing including working on the car/boat/jet skis and it is cute to see their little faces covered with grease spots. We have another one on the way and they are saying it will be a girl too. Looks like I'll be surrounded by women before long!

Hey Dan, just noticed something. Quick 10hp. Find a smaller crank pulley and get a 4" alt. pulley.
I think it's cool you and your boy are working together like that. My best memories of me and my dad are from in the garage. When I was 5, he used to give me an old carb and I had my own screwdrivers, and kept me outa his way (for a while). Before long, he says I was coming back with the carb, and he'd say "go take it apart", and I'd say "I already did!!!"
Good times!!!

A number of aftermarket places ought to have them. Summit, Jegs, or March. March is a pulley specialist that you can probably get through Sum. or Jegs. Maybe someone like Lakes would have some input. I'll see what I can find.

What about any type of stock Ford piece that we can find at the salvage yard. Being that they are rarely seen.

Thanks gottajet. Yeah, he's a natural with tools and mechanical things, always has been. He started wrenching on his dirtbike when he was 9. Now if I could just get him to start kickin some ass in school. As for his size.............he's got his dad's genes. He'll grow a little taller, but he'll be a wide body just like his dad.
Thanks for looking into those pulleys Scott. I'll do a little searching too. Maybe Lakes will show up too. Where ya at Paul?
Although............this is Paul's motor and he's running a similar setup to mine. Maybe the gain from pulley changes is just a Chevy thing. You know cuz they don't have enough power to rotate that combination or somethin? LOL

I saw that on his motor as well...first thing I noticed.
Summit has a 5" alt pulley for Ford or Chev. for $22.99
Find a smaller bottom pulley at the junk yard, and you're in there. Don't worry about not charging. You'll spin the thing fast enough every time you're in it to do that. I run mine at 1:1..(both pulleys the same size) and haven't had a problem yet. No trick alt, either. Just a standard marine Delco unit. Remenber, the set up on your boat was designed for a passanger car, running at less than 2000 rpm MOST of the time, and idling at stop lights and around in traffic. Your motor rarely sees les than 3000 rpm. It can stand to be slowed way down. Heck...that's one of the oldest "cheap hp" tricks in the book. And these 5.0 Mustang guys thought they invented something with their "power pulley" kits! :D

SUMG3969...what are ya, messed up???? :hammer2: :DI have NEVER heard of Bell's Palsy, let alone know what it is!
So I did a little research and I have to say, your symtoms sound exactly like Bell's Palsy!!!
What is Bell's Palsy?
Bell’s palsy is a form of facial paralysis resulting from damage to the 7th (facial) cranial nerve. This nerve disorder afflicts approximately 40,000 Americans each year. It can strike almost anyone at any age; however, it disproportionately attacks pregnant women and people who have diabetes, influenza, a cold, or some other upper respiratory ailment. In addition to one-sided facial paralysis with possible inability to close the eye, symptoms of Bell’s palsy may include pain, tearing, drooling, hypersensitivity to sound in the affected ear, and impairment of taste. The common cold sore virus, herpes simplex, and other herpes viruses are the likely cause of many cases of Bell’s palsy.
Is there any treatment?
Recent (April 2001*) studies have shown that steroids are probably effective and that the drug acyclovir combined with prednisone is possibly effective in improving facial function. Other treatments are usually aimed at protecting the eye from drying at nighttime. Some physicians may prescribe a corticosteroid drug to help reduce inflammation and an analgesic to relieve pain.
What is the prognosis?
The prognosis for Bell’s palsy is generally very good. With or without treatment, most patients begin to get significantly better within 2 weeks, and about 80 percent recover completely within 3 months. For some, however, the symptoms may last longer. In a few cases, the symptoms may never completely disappear.
What research is being done?
The NINDS supports an extensive research program of basic studies to increase understanding of how the nervous system works. A major goal of this research is to develop methods for repairing damaged nerves and restoring full use and strength to injured areas.
