Belmont's were used for ski racing over the years, I think someone posted a picture not too long ago of a later model that was being used for that purpose. Most Belmont's were v-drive flatties- not the current hot setup for ski racing. hmmm... maybe they'll start a nostalgic ski race class using only flatties and limiting speeds to 60 or so, I think I'd sign up for that
here's a pic of my dad's 1960 Belmont at Lake Powell about 1975 eraser's in the passenger seat about 13 years old :)

1982 BELMONT MARATHON SKI RACER
Bought this boat from a guy named Bill Simpson back in 1997 up in Lakeport Calif.
His brother in law was Len and was the owner of Belmont Boats down in Fresno for a long time till he sold the bussiness.
Belmont Boats were laid up real good and the above boat was built like a tank and could handle any rough water you could put to it.
It took over 700 horsepower to push this boat to 84 mph because it was so damn heavy.
I should have never sold it

I've got my hands in an old Belmont Flattie with a roundy-stern...somewhere around a 1968-1971 lay-up...I don't know what year for sure, but I'll post pics sometime and maybe one of you Belmont guys can help zero in on the build date...
It's a true flat, looks like your traditional old-school flattie and lots of vintage parts everywhere (Nicson, Thoroughbred gearbox, etc.). Like mentioned in a post above, this hull is very thick and looks heavy. But in this case the boat supposedly will exceed well over 100mph once revived...a kind of a sleeper...
We are hoping for some nostalgia/exhibition racing this spring also...

Thanks cal***boat that was the picture I was thinking of . The 1960 is at my place awaiting it's turn for restoration, (3rd in line behind the Sanger, and another Belmont I'm doing for a friend) would like to put a wood deck on it. As stated above these boats are tanks and very tough. The one I'm working on right now was laid up in 1965 and is supposedly one of if not the first all fiberglass Belmont (previous examples being fiberglass over plywood) It was originally designed as a V-drive but the buyer decided to go mid engine ( you can see where original placement of the propshaft hole was glassed over) I'll post some pictures as I make more progress, although not too many as I heard the owner surrepitously keeps track of my doings by lurking here
