Was wondering what everyone is doing to the boat this winter. My plans are to build a swim step and fix up the trailer on my cruiser. Also take out the trans in the stevens and change the plates on the cavation plate.

Well first off, we bought a new boat,
so I guess that means a bigger project.
But it will only be down for about a month.
Feb. is usually when we have the fluke weather
and it hits about 85, so I guess that's when we
play again.

Was wondering what everyone is doing to the boat this winter.
Just trying to build the thing. Man, I have re-e-e-eally come to appreciate the $13,000+ in receipts the previous owner gave me back when when I bought my turn-key jet boat. And lots of components were in that boat that I didn't even have receipts for. He lost a lot more than his shirt when I bought it for just $5350.
My point is that buidling the motor and associated custom application BBF parts for the hydro just takes this appreciation to a whole new level...this time, I'm the one forking out every last dime I can muster...
I just want to get it into the water in 2005; the 2-speed will have to wait and be winter project 2006.

The plan is to rebuild the boat over the winter, it's pretty rough.
Fresh paint, new engine and trans and new interior.
I'll settle for two out of three, the interior can be finished up after it gets wet ;)

I am hope to get my Spectra 24 (been working on it for last 3 years) done.
Just picked up my stainless strut from Schiada96 today (looks like a work of art). I will have Dave Sammonds install it and finish the cav. plates & motor rails then drop in the 540.

I'm changing my fairly warm hydraulic flat tappet cam for a hot solid roller cam, plus better roller rockers and stud girdle. Also changing gears, from 1.18 to 1.12, should let my little 427 wind a bit harder and utilize the rectangle heads. Hoping for mid 80's next season.

Well mine's retired for a while, it's due for a thorough going over. I'm putting a ski boat together should have it at Needles, I'll be using that until I get the GN done, then I'll redo the flat!.. :)

Agreed.
My engine block will try and make it to the machinest sometime next week, we'll see. Then the heads and crank after all that is decided.
The boat needs to be sanded down and either re-painted or re-glass the wood, we'll see what it looks like. I would like to get on the water in 2005 in my own boat, but who knows...

Cant wait to see it Brent. Do you think you will make Needles this year? What did you decide for a power plant? I am going to run a 572CI with a 14:71! I hope to have Schiada Done! Probably a Miracle if it is. Running out of money Fast! Just put an order in for my V-Drive From Tom at Menkens! New Stringers and Gel should be done by end of month. Then its off to Prime Marine for rigging. Its amazing how much money starts adding up, but if its a V-Drive, its worth it!

Corelone,
I am going to run a 540 Chevy (Tall Deck BowTie Block) with Dart Pro 1's & Dart manifold w/1050 Dom. The motor has some good parts, Carrillo Rods, Crowler crank, MSD etc. It will be done in early 2005 and I hope to make it to Needles. Yes, I do understand about the $$$$$ going fast.
Your Schiada should run very well with that motor/blower combo.
Keep us posted with pics.

Hoping for the interior and grinding out the floor and redoing it, dont know if the new BBF will be done in time, I might buy another vehicle instead of finishing that off.

Hopefully I'll finish my never-ending engine project (twin-turbo long-rod 496), then I can throw it in the boat and start rigging my never-ending boat project. It's funny... last weekend I was working on the motor and I realized that it had been exactly a year since I had bought a decent running boat, and then proceeded to take out the interior just to see "what it looked like under there." Of course, the rest was history...
Once the motor is done I need to invest in a new k-monnel (I'm pretty sure I spelled that wrong) prop shaft, a new prop and a new rudder. I've already got all the gear for my new Cav plate, I just have to rig it, then the new swim step can go on (thanks Rex Marine). After that all that's left is motor rails, floor boards, interior, gauges, and stereo. No sweat! :notam:

Did all the work last winter , painted hydro and rebuilt engine. Maybe get the hydro back to Canyon Boats in Lodi to have Kevin check some cracks in paint and get the name painted on. 68 Schiada flat is just fine and ready to go. May get the hydro out before CFW Nys day for pre check.

My Howard is in good shape, doesn't need anything major.
Guess I'll have to spend the Winter practicing my beer drinking. :D
