I showed my Mustang for the first time yesterday at John Force's Easter show and had a couple people offer to buy the car. I figured it was just looky-lou's talking just to talk, but threw out a number and gave them my #, because they "had to have it". Didn't think any more about it until around 8pm when the phone rang. It was one of the guys and he wanted to come over to buy it. I'm finding it hard to pull the trigger and commit to selling it. Problem is I rarely drive it (400 miles in 8 yaers), and am out of space to take on another project. Maybe the thing that is really bothering me is that I might have lowballed myself. Here's what it is, what is a good price for it?
1968 Mustang GT fastback S code (hipo 390), 4 spd toploader, 9" 3.50 locker, Rodlite wheels with t/a radials, console, am/8 track (have original am that will go with it). All the sheetmetal is NOS, I bought it in the 1990 before it was obsolete through Ford. There are only 4 repro pieces on the whole car, everything else is NOS. It was stripped to bare metal with media blasting and built back up and shot with the original Highland green in a 2 stage paint. We reproduced the original orange peel surface before shooting the clear. The 390 is .030 over and very stout. Car needs very little to be as close to perfect as a street car gets.
What is a good price? http://home.earthlink.net/~mwbbstang/390gt.jpg

what did you tell him?
prices for old mustangs are all over the map . fastbacks are the most popular
and it being a gt kicks it way up. my guess is $20k to $30K.

find another area for the new project. Barrett Jackson could probably get about 70K. That car is beautiful..v-drive

Ive done 4 frame off restorations on 60s era Mustangs for a friend of mine in the past few years.
Do not sell that car. if it was in my garrage it would be priceless.
Maybe Jay Leno could afford it. the Fastback GTs are rare and quite expensive. the value on one in that good of shape will never decrease better than realestate.

I told him $25k. I've restored Mustangs and Shelbys since the early 80's, and to be honest, I'm kinda bored with the "new" stuff now. I have a severe itch to build a 32-4 3 or 5 window, or maybe just a highboy roadster.

Hemmings Motor News. Twenty three 68 Mustangs found for sale. Average price $18,343 with $36,000 highest asking price. Doesn't mean there is one as nice as the one you have but gives you idea of worth.

i have a 67 gta and have been watching prices on e-bay for parts. i watched a stripped out shell go for $4000.00 complete cars like that are had to find. $25,000.00 seems cheap for a car like that. freind of ours paid $75,000.00 for a 67 camero in cherry shape. keep it.

Don't do it.................
What the hell are you thinking?
Are you nuts? An original 390 Mustang?
Even for 25K, might as well just give it to him. Sheesh, you Ford boys need to be checked out by a doctor.
Don't do it.
I mean it.
If I hear you sell it, I will put you over my knee in the worst way pal.

And even if you lowballed yourself. So what?
You changed your mind, or you decided the price was too low, or your sons won't speak to you if you sell it, or tell him the guys on ***boat will beat your ass down.
:argue: :argue: :argue:
If you really want to sell it, I guess I will forgive you.
Don't sell it just to sell it. Make a buyer REALLY want it. $$$$$$

I'm kinda leaning toward keeping it at this point. Even if I did sell it, summer's here and I wouldn't really have the time to dig into a new project anyhow. Well, that and Dana WON'T speak to me for a long time. How's THAT for rationalizing?

Keep it till at least mid-summer, I have a 68 mustang coupe my dad was the original owner I was just offered $15,000 on Wensday the value on yours is about $35,000-How bad someone wants it. My advice is take it to all the carshows in the summer and Pomona and see what the offers are. Mark

Do you have a Marti report on it?
I have a 68 Mustang GT convertable,4 speed,#'s matching J code....
Marti report says they only built 803 4 speed GT convertables.Mine has a 9in.,toploader,tach dashP/S,every factory option raises the value.
These things(GT's) have been appreciating at about 12 to 16% per year...
If it's a #'s matching S code I would venture to guess 30-35k.
Does it have a tach dash?
That adds about 2k by itself.
I would definately order a Marti report to find out how many were built w/that particular color, options, etc.

I know resto-rods are going for an absolute fortune with new power these days. People are spending the bigger bucks on better running/performing vehicles like first gen camaros with LS7's and such with new running gear and trannies. I know this has taken some of the interest away from NOS cars, but the value has been going up a lot in recent years anyway.
I would hang on to the car vs. selling it for $25,000. Whether or not it is worth more to anyone else, it should be worth more to you IMO...
