got this in a email today:
Enjoy your COFFEE.
Please pass this along to anyone you know. This needs to get out in the
open.
Recently Marines in Iraq supporting this country in OEF wrote to
Starbucks
because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffee
and
try to score some free coffee grounds. Starbucks wrote back telling the
Marines thanks for their support in their business, but that they don't
support the War and anyone in it and that they won't send them any
Coffee.
So as not to offend them we should not buy any Starbucks products. As a
War
vet, I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this War might
not be
very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the
boys on the ground fighting street-to-street and house-to-house for what
they (and I) believe is right. If you feel the same as I do, then pass
this
along; or, you can discard this and I'll never know. Thanks very much
for
your support, and I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once
more.

Wether they feel it is right or wrong, they are there, doing what their boss has told them to do. If you dont like the policies, dont like the policies. Leave the fine men and women of the armed forces out of it. :boxingguy
Thank you for your service

My sister is a manager for starbucks and personally is allowed by the corporation to donate coffee to whatever charity she wants to and has on many occasions donated coffee to the local marine reserves here in town. Starbucks is one of very few companies that offer health care to all of their employees and gives them coffee every week and they can do what ever they want with it. Don't believe everything you here.

Partial quote from the snopes.com link:
Sgt. Wright has since learned that what he heard was in error, and he has subsequently tried to set things right by issuing the following retraction:
Dear Readers,
Almost 5 months ago I sent an email to you my faithful friends. I did a wrong thou that needs to be cleared up. I heard from word of mouth about how Starbucks said they didn't support the war and all. I was having enough of that kind of talk and didn't do my research properly like I should have. This is not true. Starbucks supports the men and women in uniform. They have personally contacted me and I have been sent many of their Company's policy on this issue. So I apologize for this quick wrong letter I sent out to you. Now I ask that you all pass this email around to everyone you passed the last one to. Thank you very much for understanding about this.

Sgt USMC
Sgt. Wright has been unable to produce the reply his buddy supposedly received from Starbucks, and the folks at Starbucks deny engaging in any correspondence on such matter prior to this rumor coming along. Given that no copy of the letter appears to exist, neither one resting in the hands of the Sergeant's comrade, nor one residing in Starbucks' files, the rumor about the java vendor's harsh response to a coffee-hunting Marine should be dismissed.

I can't speak for your email and the snopes deal but that did infact happen here in SW Ohio. A local group went to Panera Bread and the company stepped up to the plate. Starbucks refused and basicly said they didn't support this war. No coffee for you...

or did they just stand by the guidelines as stated in their giving policy as posted on their web site?

I wonder.

not just what you read here, but in e-mails in general...I think it's wrong to use our soldiers to try to spread a bad rep for a co. (not blaming 73 for this).

And you’re right mrsdrmr, many times the wrong side suffers the ill effects when they are “innocently” used to perpetuate these stories/attacks.

Agreed, a couple weeks ago there was an e-mail was sent to me about a girl that was kidnapped, (I had just read on snopes that it was a false story) so I took the e-mail and sent it back with the site address and they were shocked that someone would use something so delicate as a childs dissapearance to get attention.
It is disgusting that people use a delicate subject, be it war, children, abuse, etc to get perverted satisfaction at pissing people of. I for one..just don't get it

that link was something to the effect of this...
http://www.starbucks.com/customer/nocookie.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&fav%5Ftest=1
I certainly don't mind a company policy. What I mind is the exact attitude that was givin to the wife of a solder who was trying to support her husband and his fellow troops. And yes I think it is BS.
Now if the company rep had said "we have a policy against donations" there wouldn't be anything to talk about now would there be...
Sorry boil it down all you want but it's plain white bread...
*EDIT* link worked properly after a third try...

I agree BF, attitude, good or bad, can leave a quite lasting and powerful impression.
