It may not be a real side oiler. All the C/C 300 hp engines I've seen are cast as a side oilers but are drilled as a center oilers....no big deal as a center will be just fine for any thing under 7000 rpm. The engines use pistons with a dish so deep you'd think they had a hole in each piston. The c/r is 8 to 1 for the CC/marine engines, not exactly a horesepower friendly compression ratio. If the engine was bought all you would have thats useable is the block, crank, rods and heads unless you plan on using it in another Chris-Craft. They use cast cranks, nut/bolt rods, 390 heads and iron intake manifolds. You need to be very careful with these engines as most use raw water cooling and the cylinders can be thin due to rust. Most of these engines have been in service for 35-40 years.

Hey Bob.... Its being delivered from Oakland to the ranch next week. Also coming is a 61 Econo-truck for the V-8 conversion. Taking out the 6 and putting in a 5.0 out of an 87 mustang.

http://www.v-drivevideo.com/mike/427ford.JPGThat thing is beautiful....Did your cousin get the problem sorted out? A V8 Econoline would be pretty cool too.

I have toyed around with the idea of building a V8 Econoline, it would make a cool tow vehicle for my flattie. :rollside:
A few months ago I had an opportunity to buy a 45' CC Constellation for $15K, it had two crusader 427s in it, and the boat was in reasonable shape. I just didn't have the money or time to pull it off. Uh, not to mention I might have been shot when I got home. :D
For some reason people go nuts for those old marine motors on eBay, but as 058 said there isn't much good about 'em.
Sure is a nice looking motor, KF.

Very nice....Its a toss up between the 64 and the 63 on what is the most popular of the Galaxie line.

Damn that brings back memories, I had a 64 500XL convertible with the 390 all black with red interior, that was the most comfortable and best handling luxury car I ever been in even when the spedo was pegged, and it did that easy!..It is a toss up betwen the 63 and 64, both being one of a kind model, I think I like the lines better on the 64 better, both handled the same though!..

Those are really cool, a long time ago I helped a buddy of mine do an Econoline pickup, I built a 351 Windsor and C4 for it, he went all over the country with it towing his race boat, put over a 125,000 miles on it and never broke down once!. What's really cool now is you can get the stuff to lower the factory suspention without screwing it up!..

I just ran across these pics of my dads old Galaxie, I dont know what year it is??? (I am sure you guys would know). I know he had a 12:1 390 ran on pump gas, it ran 11's all day and was reliable as can be he said. Thought these pics were really cool... he wan only 18-20 years old and it was his third car, he built the motor and did all the suspension himself.

That would be a 63 and those were the days when you could buy gas at the corner gas station, not the skunk piss you get today!.. :)

yeah, it makes me sad. I wish it could have been in the family for years like our boat is/will be. He spent all my moms money on that car when he first met her, she had about $10k in the bank and he somehow talked her in to letting him "use" it. haha, way to go pops. He said it would lift the front wheels up and was pretty fast, from the looks of the pics, it seems like the rear has some WIDE tires???
