OK all of you stereo guru's. I am picking a amp to run 6 MB Quart 160.19 speakers and here is my situation.
I can get from a guy who owns a stereo shop to give me a new/used Phoenix Gold Titanium TITANIUM 500.4. The owner of the shop will stand by this amp and if I have any problems he will replace it with a new/ new one.
----------------------------
• Class A/B 2 channel amplifier
• 24dB HP/BP/LP variable crossovers
• Crossover configured aux output
• Remote Low Pass Level control (LPL)
• Dimensions: 16.0L x 10.0W x 2.25H
75W x 4 (4 ohm stereo)
250W x 2(4 ohm bridged
OR a JL Audio 450/4
• Channels 1 and 2
- 150 W RMS x 2 @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm
- 300 W RMS x 2 @ 3 ohm-8 ohm
• Channels 3 and 4
- 75 W RMS x 2 @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm
- 150 W RMS x 1 @ 3 ohm-8 ohm
• THD <0.03% @ 4 ohm
• 5 Hz-30 KHz (+0, -1dB)
• On-board Crossover fully-variable (50 Hz-5 KHz)
• Accept up to 4ga. Wire
• 19.7"L x 9.25"W x 2.36"H
Each one I can get for $450. If I go with the JL I have to trade in my Fosgate 551X to get that price.
Any comments on which amp would be better? Don't just go off of the numbers because we all know they are most likely exaggerated. I'm looking for some testimonials.

Its all a matter of opinion.
And in mine the P/G,s sound better on highs than the JL,s.

I have better luck using the Poenix amps over the JL amps. I also think that the JL has a staggered power supply, which means that two of the channels have more power than the other two. Staggered power doesnt really work that well in boats.

I agree with the PG stuff sounds a little nicer on the top end.
there are alot of amps out there for less money that will do the job JL does :argue:

Actually the 450/4 has worked very well is a few boats I know of. ;) Works well in a 4 channel 6 speaker configuration.. Parallel the 1st 2 channels 150x2 and run a pr off the last 2 channels 75x2... Nice thing about the JL is that you'll end up splitting the minimum power(11v @ 1.5-4ohms) of 150 x2 with the pair you parallel..
As far as other amps out there, there are a ton.... Mr. Audio has is right that it's all preference. Everyone hears things differently...

I mostly recommend Rockford amps to my customers. But the JLs are nice.

You didn't write if you already have the speakers, but the 160's are discontinued. the replacement is the NKD116 :)

I had those in my last boat. Great speakers. I would put at least 100 watts to them to get their full potential, though (they can take alot of power for the magnet size).

There ya have it :D
No real troubles with the old models. Like cars electronics change yearly and it's been a long time since MB changed the Nautica line. The main external change is that the grills are screw on ...

Well that still leaves me with a problem. At best the JL amp will give me 75 watts per channel and the PG is 75w/4...... Does anyone make one amp to run 6 speakers?

If you're lucky, you can find a big ass 6 channel Macintosh amp... I can't think of an high output 6 channel amps. Most start looking to move more current and run a couple amps...
The minimum the JL will give you is the 75x....

To run 100+ to 6 speakers for me, I did the 200x4 PG Xenon amp, 2 sets off of 2 of the channels, 1 set off of the other 2 channels...
If you want to do 100x6, you might look at the Zapco Competition C2K9.0X...300x2 at 4ohms will get you 100x6...my .02

There's a great 6 ch High Current German amp available if you can get it... It's by a company called Audison. The model is the VRX6.420...
