Sorry, not boat related......Looking for some feedback here. Does anyone have a T.V. that they keep outside? We would like to mount a T.V. on our outside patio that is completely covered and we're wondering if anyone has had problems with moisture from rain or fog (which we don't get a whole lot of here) damaging the T.V. I know the pros :D, but need to know the cons.....thanks!

Any dew or moisture should go away as fast as it dissapates off your lawn i would guess. So if your grass is dry it would probably be ok to turn it on.

Jen, I thought you ask.
Moister in the air will get to the TV and can do damge if it is left outside unprotected  at least reduce how long it will last due to the elements :notam:

Rich......not to go around what you said, but I thought I'd ask around just to see if anyone has run into any problems with the elements and a T.V. outdoors. It looks like noone likes to have fun outside, noone has an answer!! :D :D :D
So you think we would have a problem in our area?? We don't get much fog, but I do see what you're saying and I don't want to do the wrong thing and blow the $ right out the window!! Thanks for your input! :rollside:

I like your answer!! :D :D In Texas too?? Wow, if so, then we may not have a problem...lots of humidity and moisture there and we don't get too much here. Thanks, appreciate the info. :)

I had a 26" JVC TV that the sound was getting bad on but worked fine. Put it outside in the back yard thinking to take it to the dump. Didn't ....... it sat there for at least 1 year. At least 20"+ of rain that winter. Plugged it in for the hell of it and the dang thing worked just as good as the day I put it out there.

The ticket is the wireless flat panel LCD TV's-they can go up to 50 feet. They are a little pricey but you can place them on counters or hang em and bring em in real easy. Check Good guys.

..yea, try 12-1300 bucks :jawdrop: I am working on putting 3-4 27" tv's under the patio cover, don't see too much to worry about...FYI most likely will be getting the tv mounts from Volutone, I heard they are way less $$ from there. :D

I like this...it's getting better and better!! :rollside: So then this wireless deal....I must not have that, it came with connections :squiggle: :D. This one is a plasma dealio 27" and I was kinda thinking the same thing and wondered how much of a hassle to bring it in now & then if need be.
Al cole'holic....that's what I'm working on as we speak, is the mount, I will check out Volutone, I was looking at one that was over $200, hopefully I will find something the same for a bit less.....thanks guys!!

You putting a plasma tv outside?? I was talking about regular tube tv's which at Volutone should be about $50 for the wall or ceiling mounts. Bear in mind you need to be some kind of contractor to buy from Volutone, if you know an electrician or GC chances are they can. :D

Does anyone have a T.V. that they keep outside?I don't, but I've always noticed them in palapa (tiki) bars all over the place, even in super humid places like Cancun and Jamaica. So, if I had an outdoor place for a TV, I'd do it based on all the working TVs I've seen in places just mentioned. I wouldn't put a high-dollar one outside though. Good luck! :)

I keep an old 20" tube outside on an arm mount under the patio. I figure a new one is about $100 at Costco so how can you go wrong?

Yea......is that a bad idea???? :jawdrop: Just alot thinner and easier to deal with, plus a little nicer looking ;). Oh, I didn't know that about Volutone....we do have a good friend that is an electrician, actually in your neck of the woods too :D. Either way, I'll find one from somewhere, just a bit pricey for a good mount. Thanks.

Hey, I put one outside 2 years ago that I purchased from Sam's Club for $229.99. I have had absolutely no problems. Not even from theft. That is what I was more worried about. I can deal with it breaking from the outside weather, I can't deal with theives!!!! So far, 2 years, no problems. Hope that helps. Paul

Great tv's... We have the Sharp 15" here in our cement tilt up bilding. The charging station is downstairs and we get great signal up here. Works more than 50ft away...:D
I was considering going this route to kill 2 birds with one stone. 1. Serve as the kitchen tv. 2. take it out to the spa whenever we're using it.
I have a different plan though...

Extended warranty won't cover any type of moisture damage... waste of money..

I have a friend who has a 50" plasma built into the outside of his cabana about 5ft away from his spa. We hooked him up with 6.1 outside as well :D
I have a large kitchen window pass thru that has a bar on the outside of the house. I'm planning to rebuild the cabinet and top to run a elevating system that will rais and ower a 42" plasma at the touch of a button. Then it's down it looks like a tiled bar top with cabinets below. When it's on the tv will pop up where I can see it from my spa 18ft away :D I already have Mirage outdoor speakers facing out from the eve's that will provide my sound ;)
The elevating assembly is available, but costly. I'll assembly my own :D

It's funny you mention that. :D
We keep a TV in our hot tub room and it's not heated so the temperature swings from -40F to +120F. The set is used from +40F to +90F. It has been in there for several years and is doing just fine. We put the remote inside a zip-lock bag and just press the buttons through the bag.
