So ... there you go. Weapons of mass destruction. Chemical weapons. This
Sarin gas could, with an effective application, kill thousands. And where
do they find it? In a briefcase! A briefcase in a car trunk. And you
wonder why our troops have had some difficulty finding Saddam's weapons?
You still think inspections could have worked? Yeah, sure they would. The
inspectors were going to look in every car trunk and every briefcase in
Iraq.
What you see in that picture is proof that the only way to even come close
to neutralizing the threat that Saddam posed was to remove him from power.
Nothing else was going to work.

I laugh because he spends all his time on what is wrong with America (mostly conspiracy sheet like you) and never wants to talk about what is right or what we can do to fix what is wrong. I also laugh because he makes "good money" (about $90K/yr) and thinks he has it made, while I pay more than that in taxes(although CA doesn't see any of that other than property and sales taxes). He thinks I got lucky with my ventures. I think he will be lucky to keep his "good job" for more than five years. A) Waging an overt war on a hostile country in a region noted for turmoil and anti-American sentiments.
B) Helping someone who is fighting that war already by giving them ammunition, weapons etc...
Essentially, which is the better move? Understanding that the enemy of your enemy is your ally and committing only peripheral support to them to help oust your actual enemy, or committing Americans lives to the fight along with weapons for them to use?
The problem is, Sadaam got more powerful than was expected, and he got more out of control than we expected. If he had played nice, we wouldn't have this problem, and Iraq would be an ally still. He got greedy and tried taking Kuwait, and he got viscious and started butchering his own people.
I don't think a whole lot of Marines are getting shot with M-16's right now. Our weapons were small scale compared to the support they got from Russia and China (enemy of the enemy etc...)
Also, to the very best of my knowledge, the US has not exported any nerve agents or poison gasses to any conflict since WWII. I doubt highly that there were any Sarin vials from the US in Iraq.
All in all, I see what you mean by your comment, but I find it pretty tasteless, inaccurate and dismissive of a real question... "Why haven't we heard about this?"

Yep, and now the USSR is kicking our ass, not. Perhaps you might want to use an example of an enemy that is stronger, not focking out of business. While we will take risks and lose a battle here and there, we won the (cold) war - which is the point. If you think that our support of Afganistan did not help bankrupt the USSR, you are sorely mistaken. If you think Iraq is the focus of our fight on terrorism and secretely disguising our greed for oil, then you just don't understand history. Yes, we want control of all the oil, as bankruptcy of our enemies is a great strategy. We don't want the oil because of greed.
Wes had some excellent points on how the Iraq invasion could have been handled that would have made the current situation less intense, but we can't spend much time on those as they don't have any influence on what is happening now....but, it is good information for future events.
