I suspect that i may have a bad plug wire. Anyone know how to test them or where to send them to have them tested. They are the red MSD wires.

Hmmm, could you check resistance on each one and see if one is way out of spec compared to the others?

Yep.
Ohmmeter.

You want to test even the new set that you buy for too much or extra unwanted resistance. The less resistance the better the strength and duration of the spark to the plug. Sometimes there is one or two bad ones in the set of those cheap aftermarket sets that are purchased at auto parts houses.
Try to keep the wires separated and away from a short to ground. Path of least resistance!

From the MSD website.....
Heli-Core Wires (Blue):
150 - 1,200 ohms per foot
8.5mm Super Conductor (Red):
40 - 50 ohms per foot

Quick and dirty way to do it is swap the wire with a known firing cylinder and see if it craps out...If it does then its a safe conclusion that the wire is at fault.

My dad and i both have had nother but problems when getting new MSD wires. If buying them from a local autoparts store bring your Multi/Ohm meter and check the resistance. Once you get a working set i've never had a problem with them and they work great.
Remember that when measuring the resistance it's rated by distance (MSD rates per foot)!

I have the 8.5 super conductor msd in my car, one of the lowest resistance cables other than a solid s/s cored one. I prefer solids in a boat if you don't care about noise suppression ;) . It would take well over 100000 OHMs not to fire your plug though ;)

Fire up the motor and pull off one wire at a time. Stick your finger in the end of the wire to see if it has spark..... :2purples: :2purples:
