I have a friend who has informed me of some information about the marina
that I didn't know. Now I'm not saying that this is fact and I certainly don't want to create any rumors. But until today, I couldn't see the logic of doing
what the marina has been doing recently. In my mind, the best case scenario for them was to win and defend any potential lawsuits with regard to the noise and length issues. So if they won, the best thing that could
happen was--they'd lose alot of revenue from alot of people not parking in
their lot and using the public launch ramp. That's the best case that I could
think of. Obviously the down side could have been some sort of censure or
sanctions and maybe even the loss of their contract to operate the marina.
Why would anyone want to create that situation for themselves?
Some have speculated that it is Jeff the manager and others have said that it could be the owner Mr. Mc Culloch. But I've doubted the latter, he's there to make money. And that he does! If they were really worried about their
employees hearing, they would have bought them ear plugs. If they were
actually worried about the length of the boats, why do they continuously
refer to the age of the ramp. As if that has something to do with length?
None of this made sense to me until last night. I wonder if it's true?
According to my friend, the marina has extensive expansion plans that would include doubling the current number of slips! Where would these
slips be located? They would be about 20 feet under the area where we
currently park our trucks! In other words, the long term plan is to slow down to a trickle the use of our ramp, which would also greatly reduce the number or parking places required for the day users. They would then
dig out more dirt and turn the current parking lot into more marina slips that start at about $185 a month. This means that he would sacrifice the best launch ramp in the town so that HE could make more of a killing than he already does. It would also mean that the other launch ramps in town would have to overcrowded beyond belief so that he could make more money while
this ramp that WE own goes to waste.
Then there is the issue about noone being able to build a competing marina on this side of the lake as long as he has open slips. Apparently for this
reason, they don't rent all the slips long term. They keep a percentage of them unrented, then they rent them short term. This allows them to show
a percentage of occupancy when in fact they have a 2 year waiting list.
The other part of the equation was this, if the London Bridge Resort folks
are successful in getting a variance (if that's the right word) that they are
getting to request, then the marina will be obliged to ask for the same favor. This would then open the door for the marina to build condos etc
for residency.
If these assumptions are correct, this would explain the actions that the marina is presently taking. I can't think of another explanation.
I wonder what else they're up to? It sounds like everything except providing us with a launch ramp facility.
The preceeding is my opinion only. These thoughts and opinions are mine
alone and have nothing to do with my employer or my position there. I'm writing this from home and simply want to know what you guys think.
