My Berkeley has a low speed growl, IÂ’m new to jets and wondering if is this a normal noise, it is just at idle and at low speed, goes away with throttle any suggestions?

Turn the idle up... Just kidding. I don't know a hole lot about pumps, but I don't think they should be making any noise. I would call a reputable pump shop and describe your symptoms.

The last time my pump had a growl in it was because one of the intake fingers had broken off and got stuck in the pump. http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/forum/smilies/sad15.gif
Before you take any drastic measures check and make sure there is nothing stuck in your pump.

Maybe it's a tumor...

Who is your daddy, and what does he do? (for you Chester!!!)
Check you u-joint for proper lubrication, and for excessive play (i.e. broken needle bearings inside) Easy stuff first. Then check for play in the shaft. They have a certain amount of end play, (for and aft) but measured in the thousandths. If you can grab the splined shaft (with the yoke off) and there is more than a very slight amount of play,(vertically) then it may be a bearing. Also, make sure that the oil level is correct for the rear bearing.

Thanks, for the info it sounds like it is comming from the front bearing, it was not a tumor!

Stainless impellers growl at idle speed. It has to do with resonance.
