I have a question since this seems to be a joke..
if you witnessed a car accident with no injuries but felt you needed to call for an ambulance.. who would you call?

Just happened to me last year. I called the CHP. The time before that I called the local police. Simply called 411 for their number and they were there in 15 minutes in both cases.

From the other thread:
EXAMPLE: What To Do
You're looking out of your window and notice a person breaking into your neighbor's home...
You should immediately go to the phone and dial 911.
78's mom needs to call the E911 folks and tell 'em that's no emergency.

When my office was broken into a while back I got out the phone book and looked up the main number for the police dept and called. When the officer answered he told me to call 911 because they are set up to properly route the calls to the the appropriate agency. I guess he didn't check with his mom first.

As I said in the other post:
911 systems have historically routed cell calls to the CHP because of the primitive tech when it started. They are now (slowly) being routed to the local PD if the cell site that holds the call is in a PD jurisdiction. If it is in the county area, the calls will still go to CHP.
Calling 911 for a CRIME IN PROGRESS is very OK (don't care what your mama says :yuk: )

What is 911?
911 is the number to dial for the fastest possible emergency response when you need emergency POLICE, FIRE or MEDICAL ASSISTANCE in a life or death situation.
911 is a "team" of police and fire department employees--professional men and women--who are on call 24-hours a day. They are trained to assist in getting emergency help to you as quickly and as safely as possible.
When to dial 911
911 is the number to dial when an emergency is occurring either immediately or within the last 10 minutes.
How 911 Works
The Sumner County Enhanced 911 system. E911 telecommunicators digitally receive the telephone number and address from where the call for emergency services is placed. This information is then immediately relayed to the appropriate agency.
EXAMPLE: What To Do
You're looking out of your window and notice a person breaking into your neighbor's home...
You should immediately go to the phone and dial 911.
An E911 Telecommunicator will answer your call and will then ask you to verify the location you are calling from.
Even while you are talking, an officer is already on the way. Try to remain calm and answer all of the E911 telecommunicator's questions--we understand you may be excited.
DO NOT HANG UP!
For officer safety, it is very important that the E911 telecommunicator on the phone gets all the necessary information about the emergency and the suspects.
Give information most needed:
Name and phone number from where you are calling
What happened
Where it happened (address)
When it happened
Is anyone injured?
Suspect description
Vehicle description
License number
Direction of travel of suspect
Did you see any weapons?
How many suspects?

so maybe your call going to the local police station blocked a real 911call
coming in you don't understand the concept of 911
the 911 operator is better equipped to handle thees types of calls

I would assume they can handle a high volume of calls, once they get you on the phone, they get you off and transfered within 30 seconds.
