I am trying to change out my gears on my casale 10 degree box and the casings do not want to seperate so I stopped to ask advise before I messed up. I have never torn into one before but have worked on gearboxes most of my life so I am not completely stupped on the subject I am going from 1.18 to 1.29 gears any advise would be a big help. should I change the bearings?what do I need to watch for? Thanks

Did you pull the top bearing? That and the all the cover bolts out...should come right apart.

Get two screw drivers one on ether side of the top bearing,Try to wedge the tip of them in between the back of the bearing and the case and then wiggle it out. Then on the cap for the bottom lower bearing is a small cover with a bolt in it with a jam nut. Loosen the jam nut and then tighten the bolt and it should slowly pull off the front haft of the case. :D

It's just a handy deal to help pry off the case...works as a puller after you get that top bearing out. Some V drive lower covers don't have the little bolt. It's a racer thing I believe. Just back if off so it is not touching the end of the shaft.

thanks once I seperate the covers my gears should be right there correct? Should I check any backlash or as long as I have some it will be fine? Thanks again for the help! :)

This is the first thing you need, then use the bottom bolt to pull the case off!. Gears should slide right off, make note of the spacers they will have to go back the same way, also pay attention to how many shim gaskets that are on the end caps, you might want to check the thickness of the new gears and compare with the old set!..

You also want to make sure that you don't mix the spacers up top and bottom. You should have to remove them to get the gears off the shafts.

And don't forget the 2 long bolts that are in the center of the case. In the pic one is right behind the wrench.
TR!, wedging bearings out with screwdrivers, shame on you!
Damn, looks like I'll have to get off my butt and do another run of those pullers.
