I remember flying into Denver International once. The winds coming off the mountains were coming across the runway like a huge wave. I swear the pilot had the plane sideways as he banked to align to the runway. Scared the shit out of me!!

Hey look...we are changing runways....No wait, the pilot is just having some fun! I am surprised the tires did not blow after that much wait and speed hitting sideways like that. He must run bead locks. :D

That is the old "Stone Cutter " approach into the now de-commissioned Kai-Tak airport. The "visual only" approach took you right towards the Stonecutter Island and a series of brightly painted panels mounted on the top of a peak then a turn southeast to the Runway. I forget what the cross wind limits are on that runway as I lost the approach plate a few years back. ( my buddies dad flew for Korean Airlines as an Ex-patriot)
That guy just overshot a bit and insisted on landing. A China Airlines 747 did the same thing and struck engines 1 AND 2 causing severe damage.

I had guessed that was Kai-Tak, I know it had a tight approach. He did misjudge that turn a little... :D
The #1 engine looked to be around 2 feet off the runway.

Notice the spoiler action on that 747 left wing when the left wing is high and right wing when it is high when he kicks it around. Also the elevator and rudder are working away.
Speed brakes to full as soon as it touched down.

When the N/NE(Santa Ana's) winds are blowing out here, Ontario Airport can be an enjoying day to sit and watch the guys try their best to get down, the winds change direction at the last second, i have seen two and three attempts at landings. UPS has a reengined stretched DC-8 reengined with turbofans that comes in twice a day, i have seen these guys come in when 747's and 767's cant get in, amazing that there have not been more accidents and broken airplanes at Ontario. those guys aint got shi*t on me, try putting my pontoon boat on the trailer in three foot waves and 20mph winds, you have to make about the same approach, and try and time the waves. !!!
I landed on another guys trailer once, he wasn't as amused as i was...lol

Now that you mention it, it is just about like it was putting my 30 foot Eagle on the trailer in the Delta with the tide going out and the wind blowing 30MPH to boot. I had to come up to the trailer almost sideways...

Now add a pitching and rolling deck of an Aircraft Carrier to the equation and you can see why Navy pilots are sought after in the commercial world

Crosswind.. (http://www.micom.net/oops/Boeing%20747%20Extreme%20Landing.mp4)
There is not much wind look at the windsock at the start of the runway? Also look at the water I would say its less then 10mph. I think he was to high and was crabbing it in, to lose altitude, and got off the centerline of the runway.

I saw video once of a UPS plane going in to Ontario that was as crazy as these videos!!

I am thinking there is some terrain to avoid at that airport. Regular spetacular landings. :coffeycup

ColeTR1 is correct. The first video with the 747 is an example of a pilot making desparate measures to correct a poor approach. The windsock shows minimal wind which that 747 would have no problem with.
The second video showing the A321 is a crosswind situation, just look at the trees in the first third of the video.
Bottom line: Nice "saves" by both pilots.
