What can you guys tell me about the 540 Merlin motor? A lot of the Cats I have been looking at are running the 540. What kind of horseys are they running out of these things? I looked at a Force26 yesterday that the guy was claiming 650hp.......What do you all think? He claims the motor has not been touched, and the boat is a 2002 with 56hrs. ???????????
Thanks
Justin
P.S. I also posted this in Gear Heads.

The 540's have been getting around 620 to 650HP on the dyno's. I have a custom built 540 that dynoed just under 650HP's :D :D :D

Riverready, it depends on who builds your 540. I have a 29 Force with a 540 and it is putting out almost 700 hp and stock. Force has a new inhouse motor builder that is putting some serious power to these 540's.
PM me if you are interested in talking.

It depends on what parts are used in the build. They will put out anywhere from 500 HP to perhaps 1,200 HP for a quad rotor.

It depends but if you get a good piece they are good motors for bigger boats, being a stroker motor and all. :D
someone can explain it better than I but its easy to make more HP with more CID.

My 540 has done the job for 2 season now, Can't complain at all.
656 HP dyno'd pushes my 29 to around 80-85,
Just keep the oil fresh and it'll last a long time.
Good Luck

You keep making comments like that I'll end up broke pretty soon. :D
(Especially with Force putting out a few 29's with twins :p )
Dont forget to leave me a spot at your dock this summer!

Ours has been turn key. Went from the last Dam Run til the Christmas parade without starting it... and it started first turn. Can't beat it I don't think for the price and the hp you get out of it.
