just wondering what brand and type of motor oil do most of you run.

valvoline VR1 20-50 in the colder months
and valvoline VR 50 in the hottest months.
seams to maintaine the same oil temps that way with the different water temps.
I was using kendall but it wasnt available once when I wanted to do an oil
change on a trip. SO switched back to VR1 cause everyone stocks that these days.

has anybody ever used a non-detergent brake in oil before?.. We run it in all aircraft engine's for the first 75-100 hrs of use, or it will burn oil.

We run ND 30 wt. the first 20 minutes on every new or rebuilt race motors ... R-11 (5/20 Race Equiv.) there after changing every 8 to 12 max 1/4 mile runs. I run either 5/20 Castrol or Castrol Syntec in my F-150 4X4.

Jak have you ever tried the Valvoline Syn Power in your Red Ford ???
It is a real nice 100% synthetic Motor oil.
I run Valvoline VR 20/50 even in the hottest times of the Summer in the Off-Road race truck and it seems to hold up very well.
In my F250 7.5L I have run Valvoine DuraBlend for its entire life. I started with 10/30 and now at 335K I am running 10/40 cylinder presure is up at 162average.

I find my oil pressure is much more consistent since I switched from 30w dino. oil to 15-30 Valvoline full synthetic. My motor runs cold, and I'm not afraid of the 15 rating viscosity when it's synthetic. Teague has stated that they have seen roller lifters scuffing on the cam using sythetic, but that was probably with higher spring rates.
There was a loong thread on offshoreonly about oils, mostly concentrating on the breakdown temperatures. I don't see that high of oil temps. to justify the cost of the v-twin oil at $12? qt.

LMAO, here we go again, wish I had a buck for everytime this subject has been discussed!. :D But what the heck, I used Kendall back in the day until they changed then I switched to Castrol GTX, been using it ever since, I use it in everything, got a motor with over 300,000 miles on it and it's still like new, guess I'll keep right on using it!..

Don't use that Castrol! My Ford diesel has 240,000 miles on that stuff and I never get to work on it. Just no fun. :boxed:
And it's injected too.

I thought that the higher spring rate would push the roller into the cam lobe harder and make it turn, and lower spring rate was more prone to scuff....??

Brad Penn is making that Green Kendall now. I talked to them at the PRI show. They would love to find a west coast distur.

SuperDave, did you confirm with them this is the original Kendal formula, same additives as original?

That's what they were saying. They had all the different additives in other lil bottles on display. I'm not an oil expert but they sure were fired up about it. I always used Kendall too.
I don't know what it takes to distribute oil but I've been thinking about looking into it. Selling the original Kendall to racers should be like selling meth to a crack *****. lol But then I think of all the new synthetics and wonder if it's worth the bother.

I had that big White duelly with the shell. Both of those where very clean btw. He had the Motorhome too right. He left right before we did after we cleaned the area up.

Kendal 50 wt in my blown bb chevy. I ran 8 races the year before last in Pro-Eliminator 8.00 I had 60 passes on the motor that season. We are estimating 1250 to 1300 horspower with the a conservative tune on it. My engine builder said the bearings looked perfect and if had had not alreadt torn everyting down to mag the crank he would not have even changed them. Thanks To Kendal.
