I have heard that, and with the vents that are cut into the sides of the anodized aluminum housing, I can mount them fairly tight and they will still be able to draw air from the sides.

O.K. the deal withe theese fans is the bottom is solid to act as a heat sink, and I believe air is drawn in through the slits and blown out the direction of the fan opening.
I'm not sure how I would incorporate them in a cooling system for my amps.
I am trying to design a amp rack that provides the best cooling for my amps, and can't decide whether to use the stinger style barrel fans, or the computer type cooling fans.
Theese just look to cool to not use, but I'm not sure if they are my best bet.

In my case, DCB mouted them directly to a bulk head, I would think that it would'nt hurt to mount them on stand off's to allow what air there is down there to pass along the underside too.
I will try and find out where I can by them and machine myself a trick billet mounting system.
Where did you find the pic of this fan?

Panaflow makes other fans that will do the job. We usually use squirrel cage fans, but have used computer types in many different installe... I have a setup in my garage incorporating 2 2.5 " fans that suck air up from the botton of an amp rack and blow the air out through a vent at the top of the enclosed plexy amprack... Sould keep them nice and cool...
You could always use led computer case fans....

I have a similar setup in my boat, I used two 3" fans to draw air from the bottom and it vents it through the top of an enclosed rack. it makes quite a bit of ariflow across the heatsinks, I had this in place all last summer without one instance of thermal shutdown.
Somewhere I have pics of this, I'll try to look them up....
Oh, and for the record, I'm running rockford fosgate amps.

Well, yeah, those. :) My apologies for the second photo, that was taken during a fit and test session, prior to final install. I have since cleaned up all the stray wires and loose ends as well as replacing the white backing. At the time of this photo, I had used vinyl, and wasnt real happy with the result, I ended up using whte dry erase board. It gives a nice clean finish that reflects the neon nicely.
