Does anyone know where to get info on building different kinds of seat frames?? I need to build some for my upholsterer to do my boat. I searched this section and could not find anything. Mike

Mike, its pretty basic carpentry with wood frames, just remember a good upholstery guy can cover the ugly capenter guys mistakes, have you looked into fiberglass shells?..........Vic

Onaroll's right. Basic woodworking - and I'm not woodworker.
I ripped my original's apart
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/1341Boat_Seats_0046-med.JPG
then used the wood as a basic pattern making changes and improvements where I thought they needed it. I re-used the fiberglass bucket backs and built this:

I took the whole shootin' match to the upholstery guy (old vinyl & foam) and he kicked out a nice new set.

396 is in the process of getting a set covered right now, not sure if he built new frames or not. I glued & screwed everything then reinforced the corners with glass fabric and covered the whole thing with resin. Considering the original's were just wood with big staples and the lasted 18 yrs, I figure any kind of a decent job will work wonders.

I just ripped the old stuff out of my daycruiser and it does look pretty basic. I think I will be able to build the new ones. Thanks guys for the advice and pics. If anyone else has any pics please post them.

I've got a related question: If you cover the frames with resin before its upholstered, wouldn't it be hard to get the staples in for the vinyl covers? I've always wondered that.

A GOOD INTERIOR SHOP WILL USE STAINLESS STAPLES, MY GUY SAID HE LIKED EM RESINED BECAUSE HIS STAPLES DON'T BACK OUT THAT WAY AND THEY STAY TIGHT, THE FABRIC DOESN'T PULL AWAY AND START CRACKING OR SPLITING.

I know how you feel. I got a quote of $600 bucks to just do the wood work. I bought all the material and did it on my own for $120 dollars. I was woried about my design and all the same stuff as you. I gave it to my upolstery guy and when I got it back it looked better than I thought it would.

Solid white for 219 is a different model seat. They list 6 different colors (4 combo, 2 plain- white, grey) on a different (boatUS) web site showing both models. Also look in the "e catalog" link on the page where the seats are (boaters world). It shows all 6. I have the direct sales line # for B&M that I got from the store manager at my local Boater's World, that they use to order from. He will get me whatever I want from whoever they buy from, even if they don't normally stock it, as long as I have the PN/model #. White is 220W-6.

I guess I'm lucky. We have Boater's World, Boat US, West Marine, and Eastern Marine, all within a 20 mile radius. Franklin Trailer is "over" in Jersey, a little farther, but a friend of mine owns a spring shop, and gets me stuff from them at cost, so that helps, too.

I did research them, after seeing the seats in LynnsJet's boat. I also talked to the manager at Boater's World, as it is pretty close to my house. I am looking at some fiberglass seats as well. I also have an original set of seats from my SleekCraft, but they would also need new plywood frames to be fabbed up, and some upholstery repair.
