View Full Version : Wanted*** Hot Tub

During the past year I've seen a handful of threads about people that are wanting to get rid of their Hot Tubs and I've always been late to answer.... So now I'm taking an offensive approach. I need one bad (I have a herniated Disc and I can barely walk) but I have limited means to purchase something brand new. So if anyone is wanting to get rid of one they're not using or they got a new one for Christmas and need to move the old one, please PM with details. I'll pick it up within a 200 mile radius of Los Angeles.
Thanks :D

I have a boat formerly known as Hot Tub.
Sorry Rev. couldn't pass it up.
Seriously, wish I would have known about twoo weeks ago, my bro-in-law just cut up and threw away an 8 person Jacuzzi, needed a little bit of work but a Jacuzzi repair man told us that it would have been under $200.00 bucks to fix, he couldn't get any takers so we cut it up and took it to the dump, now I'm bummed, it would have been perfect...

I've been trying to avoid surgery, but this time it's pretty bad. I've lost 20% nerve sensation in my left leg already and the pain is really over the top now. I've been reading about a Orthoscopic surgery they have to trim down the herniated piece off the nerve, but any type of back surgery is just flat out scary to me. I'm doing what I can right now with hot packs and massages, but the swelling is still pretty bad.

Good luck on the hot tub search. Maybe your avatar can give a little rub and join you in the tub. That should help at least take your mind off the pain. :p

I had a discectamy (sp) where they just snip off the bulging disk.
(that surgery was not a big deal) as soon as I woke up I felt better.
3 years ago, I had a 3 level spinal fusion. (very scary, awfull 11 hour surgery, they replaced 7 pints of my blood) That was very hard to recover from. My suggestion is to wait until you can't stand the pain, then go to the very best doctor you can find. You want someone that does this surgery A LOT!!
Dr. Disney in Pomona is IMO the best, he won't do the surgery unless you really need it (unlike some surgeons)
I'm doing well, I have to have my nerves "cooked" in my back again, because they grew back. Have you looked into pain management by "cooking" your back nerves?
Good Luck!

Rev,
Hate to tell you this but a hot tub is not going to help you. The reason your in pain is because the disc is protruding up against the nerve. Depending on the size if the bulge, you can either rehab it so that the disc slips back into place or you will need surgery. Get an MRI and go see an orthapedic (sp?) and they can tell you whether rehab or surgery is right for you. I would pass on the epidural shot as that hurt like hell. 5 long needles stuck in your spine and I swear it was like acid going in. If you get the surgery, your home the same day and the pain is gone the minute you wake up. Within a week, your back at work. Had mine done 5 years ago and have been pain free ever since.

I've heard about those shots   and thats a big HELL NO for me!! I've had the MRI and at the time it was 8mm out. Normally it mellows out with heat and bed rest, but this time it's staying around.
Did you get the Orthoscopic surgery? or the normal (big cut to the back) surgery???

Had three epidurals (didn't work) then surgery. That has worked for two years, now more pain in back, and pain numbness and tingling down right leg. Doctor says two more epidurals for diagnostic reasons, then more surgery. Once a bad back, always a bad back. Doomed!!! Good luck, but your quality of life will be better if you get a good doctor, and follow their advice. If surgery is the best option, go for it. Get that back feeling better, when it's bad it effects all aspects of your life, physical and mental.

Oh yeah, I have a couple of pics of you in it.......its kinda yellow, roundish... but looks good with her on it!
I had herniated disks in my neck, as well as back pain. Soaking in the jacuzzi helped ease the pain, as did just floating without weight compressing on them. Alternated between heat and cold packs. The numbness gradually went away and mobility returned. An occasional night of sleeping wrong can mess it up, but time cure the problem pretty much. Exercise helps. I hit the gym usually three days a week and do a lot of back and trunk exercises. Feels so much better.
My wife made this weird heat pad thing. Works awesome. Take a new tube sock. A large one. Fill it with rice or dried beans. Sew the end up. Put it in the microwave oven for two minutes. Comes out nice and hot and it conforms to the shape of your body. It stays warm for 15 minutes or so.

The masseuse gave me one of those things. Pretty cool. It's got some type of vicks/herb smelly stuff, that soaks in while it's hot. Works well, but I end up smelling like a french w h o r e.

Never heard of this "Cooking" What is it???
It is where they insert an electrode into your back, under x-ray so they know where they are going, and when they find your cyatic (sp) nerve, they release a small amount of electrical current into the electorde in your nerve (you are numbed and drugged for this) the current is so small it will barely cook an egg. It "cooks" the nerve and it dies. They do this for several nerves in your back, because the cyatic nerve is actually many nerves running from your lower back down your legs. It worked GREAT for me.
The bad news is, some doctors want to "run the course" before they do this. That means cordizone shots, that did nothing for me, just made my hyper. They usually do three. Try do avoid these.
The nerve cooking worked great, because I had, had the diskectamy, where they cut the buldging disk that is pressing on your nerve off. So the mechanical reason for my pain was gone.
But when he got to my disk, there was nothing left, so I had to have a spinal fusion, 3 levels, I have degenerative disk disease, so I will have to have another fusion, later in life.
I'm actually looking into getting my nerves cooked again, it worked for 3 years for me! Was totally worth it. Not that much pain, they drug and numb you. Someone has to drive you there and back.
Good Luck!

That sounds pretty brutal ! I'm not real comfortable with anyone sticking a needle around my spine.... I'm going to do some research on the Orthoscopic surgery and see if that will be right for me. I'm also doing traction....That is great!! It just rips you apart for 20 minutes and lets the disc draw back in.

Do you have one of those traction tables? Like a stretching machine sorta. I bet that would add some serious relief. Floating feels good too.

I wish I owned one! I use the one at the therapist office. After a nice hot pack and 20 miutes in traction I feel great for an hour or so.

check the paper. I bought a near new HotSprings Spa for $800 with a cover. They paid $6000 for it a couple of years prior. The old guy died and the wife wanted the yard space back. Runs on 110 too. Heats slowly but is cheap to run.

I have a person that works with me in Simi that needs to get rid of one by tomorrow...she is moving from a rental into her new home and can't find anyone to take it.. The new home has a built in...
Disclaimers, light don't work, temp control does not work, so you have to go outside and feel it and reset it if it is getting too cold or hot if you are trying to maintain a certain temp. Seats 4-5, new cover, she has painted it so it is in ok shape. The rental is built on a slope so getting it will be a chore..
She is paying someone to dispose of it, but if someone is interested in picking up by tomorrow she will give it to someone who needs it.
