this is a restoration my dad is doing. The boat had been sitting outside in the arizona sun for many years. The deck has sagged quite a bit from the heat. Someone at sometime had run over a rock or something at a high enough speed that it cracked the boat along one of the strakes all the way to the transom. the fin and rudder were also bent from the crash. Somebody tryed to fix the damage by filling it with bondo. just before my dad got the boat for the restoration the bondo job caused the bottom to delaminate and part of the bottom was lost in the lake.
this first picture is after my dad removed the hardware.

the boat was pretty much split in two from the damage. enough water worked its way in from the damage that eventualy the bottom delaminated.

parts from the boat.
the boat is ready to get flipped back over now. there is still a ton of repair work still to do. my dad or I will post some more pictures as he gets further along. if anyone has any questions about it my dad would be happy to answer. the boat is a 1983 miller 19 foot v-drive. almost all of the v bottom v-drives were 20's so this is kind of a rare boat.

Any pictures of the grinding/preparation, and before the final sanding was done? How many layers did it take and what type cloth and resin was used? Nice job. :D

Is that the same hull as the 19 jet boat? One of my good friends has a 19 jet defently a nice boat my self I have a 20 jet and have two other friends with 20 all jets We dont like millers or anything :D would like to see how a v drive performs

VDCRUISER:
Pictures 7-9 show the preparation work (grinding) before fiberglassing. Where the boat was broken, I ground in enough to add 5 layers of mat, no cloth. The rest of the 1st layer that got stripped off I added 2 layers of mat.
When I turn the boat back over, I will completely re-inforce the bottom and sides where damaged with multiple layers of mat. I use polyester resin. Didn't take any pictures after fiberglassing and before faring in.
bigpapasean:
Yes, it is the exact same hull as the 19' jet, the only difference is the inserts for a recessed strut and cav plates. I only remember putting 2 or 3 19's together with v-drives. They work very well, hardly any difference in handling compared to the jet. Only big differences are they slow down quicker and are more economical on fuel. Glad to hear from happy Miller owners!

three bulk heads were put in for added strength. the middle bulk head goes up to the deck. it pushed the deck back up about an inch or so, and actualy also moved the gunnels more where they used to be. the deck had sagged from the sitting outside in the phoenix heat. the furthest back bulk head will be covered by a bench seat. the owner uses the boat HARD in some pretty rough water so the added strength will help the integrity of the hull.

VDCruiser, I couldn't agree more. Just amazing.
It's terrific to have access to this type of talent on this board. Just the photos alone are each worth more than the proverbial 'thousand words' each!
My hat's off you John and Garrett, and the rest of your crew!

This is a new 509 chevy replacing the tired old 396.
It has a 550 pound hull, blueprinted bottom, and now 509 inches It should be a quick ski boat.
I heard everything went well testing the boat out today.

I talked to the original builder of that boat and I wonder how that boat will work at top speed with the round keel and V-drive. I know these hulls are wicked fast in a jet, but won't the round keel get a lot of chine walk in a v-drive if you don't modify the bottom. My friend has a 20ft Miller v-drive that had a little chine walk after he added about 600 hp.He asked Jim Miller to look at it and he fixed it by adding a blast plate. Boat works perfect now. Just wondering if this boat will need the same. I've been watching as you've posted and the boat turned out very nice.
