Not in this trip. That's my brother and his son. Takes his boat out at night and uses hoop nets that are baited with fish. Throws them overboard, lets them sit for 45 minutes, then pulls them up. He goes out by the breakwater in Long Beach. He said sometimes the Coast Guard will make him leave the area, something about security after 9/11, but most of the time they don;t hassle him.
I've got a rule about no fish in my boat, but for some lobster this size, I might make an exception. :D

sh*t I didn't even know there was lobster in the Pacific, let alone long beach.
Are you sure they didn't grow that big from all the pollution?

Explain this "hoop netting" to me.. I actually want to go to this, if I can yield any kind of results like that!!
How much does that lobster weigh in that 1st picture? 2nd question being, how do you even cook something that big? Gotta be a BBQ deal instead of a Pot?

I have questions too.
With lobster - it doesn't matter big or small, the meat is equally as good, que no?
And why is that kid wearing shorts from my alma matter HS?

That's what I was thinking. Lobsta' is only in the Atlantic....

Lobster in the first pic was 12lbs. He said it wasn't for it being in the process of moulting it would of weighed more.
Gotta have a big arse pot. Pacific Lobsters don't have claws, only Maine lobsters.

More questions here..
I was talking to my chick about this, and she said she would be concerned to eat those lobsters becuase of all the pollution? Any problems there?
Are these things as good as maine lobsters? Do you eat the legs etc.. or just the tail?
What do we got going on here bud.. Are you telling me that I can have 12 lbs of lobster relatively easily? Becuase I'm tired of paying gobs of money for lobsta.. and I've always wanted to learn how to cook the SOB's.. I'm thinking I might have found my window of opportunity here.

I have eaten the Lobsters off of Newport my whole life and I never have gotten sick from them. Don't kid yourself, lobsters that big are not very common. I have probably seen 2-3 out of 15 years of diving. Normally they are around 3lbs or so. Normally just break off the tail, and throw them in a pot of boiling water. Butterfly them and eat. Dipped in butter and a little garlic salt of course.
Can also wrap the tail in tin foil, throw in a 1/2 cube of butter, garlic salt, and chives then throw it on the BBQ. Both ways turn out great. I only eat the tail.

I cought one about the same size when diving about 5 years ago. I put it into my game bag and that mother F*$&ER flapped its taill so hard I could hardly swimm back to shore. It weighed 18 lbs. We BBQ it because we didn't have a pot big enough. I preffer the smaller ones. Better taste, not as tough and not as muc bacteria. Still good shite!
