Need A New Out Drive ?

Just bought a new winter project boat, it's a 24' Cat with a 700 HP. Ford, but it has a Volvo Penta 270 out drive in it. The owner said he never had any problems with it but maybe he never went that fast. Anybody got any input into this ?

I think you should just run it and see if you can break it :rollside: If you're gonna replace it you might as well break it..........
What hull and year is it?? Sounds strange but people will do strange things. I know a guy with a Hallett Vector with a big ass motor running a VP290 :notam:
I don't know about the 270 but the 290 is rated for up to 500 horses.

Thanks for the responce on the out drive, the boat is a 1979 Orion out of Costa Mesa CA. What Iam going to do is regelcoat the boat and add some cool graphics to it. If I need to replace the out drive with something else and fill or replace the transom before I gelcoat I want to do it now. I just don't know what will be the hot set up for the boat. any suggestions? I really want 1000 Hp. but I need more money!!!!!!!!!!! :cry:

I think I know this boat. Is it solid white with a black stripe around the top? If so it used to belong to a friend of my neighbor in Parker.

I don't know that much about the boats history, but it has three colors of blue fade paint over gel now and that is coming off. I'am playing with some graphics on the putor now sence it's raining and snowing in so cal today and for the next week maybe. but hell skiing is excelant!

I will take some pic's soon and post them. I was thinking of before I start ~ during progress ~ and after it's compleded. I'am still looking into a out drive for it, something like a beefed up Bravo. I talked to the Volvo Penta people and they said don't even try it with a 270 out drive it will just twist it up, hell that fits me I'am alot twisted.
