I'm heading up to the mountains this weekend for a weekend of relaxing and snowboarding at Big Bear. This was lind of a last minute trip a couple of girls I know put together. I am having trouble finding chaind for my tires. I have 35/12.50/15 tires and my tahoe is a 2 wheel drive. I am not sure if I will need them tonight, but I don't want to chance it. Pep boys, Auto Zone and Kragen all said I have to special orde them. Anyone know where I might be able to pick up a set today? Any help is appeciated.
Thanks

Check with a place that specializes in tires only. I'm heading up there tomorrow and had to run around looking for some for my Yukon XL. One place told me about a tire place in LA that will custom make chains for you on the spot if they don't have them in stock. I just hope the road going up there is open.

You are going to needs them! We just got back from Bear Monday! Had a blast but figure the drive from the base will be about 1-2 hours drive.

Thanks guys! I just got back from 4 Wheelers Supply in Huntington Beach and picked up a good set. I'm prepared for the drive and looking forward to a sweet weekend of riding.

I've been forced to put them on at times, but other times they let me through as long as I had them with me. :D

Just out of curiosity, how much did those chains set ya back? :)

The CHP said that even with 4x4 they are requireing that you carry chains even if you don't use them.
The chains cost me $160 which I know isn't cheap, but they are top of the line and now I have a good set for the future. I'd rather pay more and have the right equipment. That place is pretty much the only one in OC that has any for bigger tires in stock.

OK so the CHP says carry them with ya even though you may not use them - sounds like the Govt operation it is
Maybe I'll just buy a pair in case I want to launch my 30 at Site 6

You need chains...practice putting them on...they charge 40-50 bucks on the mountain.

That seems about right, I bought a set for my 35-12.5-15 BFG MT's about 15 years ago at Dick Cepek and paid around $110.00

I went to wal-mart and bought a cheap set just to show I have them but with the 4x4 and mud tires they wont make me put them on.
