Anyone out there show their pooches:
This is our female Dogue De Bordeaux. She turned 1 on New Years day.
We began showing her this past year and hope to eventually get a couple of litters of pups out of her.

We have had bullmastiffs and Dogue de bordeauxs since the early 90's. the female will be around 120 lbs. and the male around 140 lbs.
For being such a big dog they are very gentle and family oriented. I don't worry about being away from home because nobody is going to come through the door that is not welcome. They are called the guardian dogs because they are naturally very protective of their families.
They were doing such a good job in France for the noble families during the world wars that Hitler actually put out an edict to kill any red dog his soldiers came across because they were killing them. They were also used to hunt bear and wild boar.
They are still considered a rare breed and are slowly becoming more popular.
They do grunt, drool and snore alot. We like it but others don't.

I've seen the pet quality go for between $1000 to $1500 and show quality pups can run you as much as $3000.
Stud fees for males can be anywhere between $1000 to $1500 and the females can have around 9 to 12 pups in a litter. We heard of a female having 18 pups and had to have a C section.
Expect to be well screened by the breeder before they let you have one of their pups. These are a rare breed dog and the US breeders all know each other and don't want their dogs being sent to any rescues or mistreated. It's a pretty close knit family of dog owners.

They need exercise but they don't necessarily need a large back yard to own one. If you have a medium size yard and walk them religiously they should be ok.

How long do these types of dogs usually live and do they have any problems like bad hips or anything else that is normal for there breed?

The breed standards say 8 to 10 years. I just lost my 12 1/2 year old last March. I believe the secret to longer life for them is exercise and slimming them down as they get older. He got fibrosarcoma in his gums and the vet thought they got it all but it was close to a lymph node and spread to his lungs and brain. He was in perfect health otherwise, we put him down when the grand mal seizures took over.
Best dog I ever had..loyal to the very end.
As far as the hips are concerned they are the same as any large breed dog. Check out the parents. We are having are female checked again here in the next month and in the past xrays they have looked very good. We will not breed her if her hips are not good. Same with the male pup.
