Need some input on valve selection. My Dooe-r(CJ) heads have steel valves. I was told I should switch to stainless steel valves. Can someone help me with this. Why, if I'm not running nos, or super high compression would I need to switch to stainless valves. Will my steel valves work.

I put Manley Race Master Stainless valves (2.19, 1.76)in my 429 for durability! I dont want anything to break in the valve train! I am running a 634 lift Solid roller and very high spring presure, so I did not want valve train problems I would spend the extra money for piece of mind!!

Run the SS valves, I have heard of the heads breaking off the stems on the stock CJ intake FoMoCo valves. I run valves from REV or S.I. and run spring pressure in the 150-160 seat range and 375-400 open [flat tappet cams] The only time I would run the Ford valves would be in a street engine with stock or close to stock spring pressure.

Thank you guys for the info. My whole issue is the price it's going to cost me to run stainless valves. The wife is getting alittle tired of the money thing for this motor. Let me asky you guys this, does anyone make after market steel valves. Spectra are the part #'s you gave for cobra jet heads? Large valves? Once again thank you guys for the info!

You can probablly get away with running the steel valves if your spring pressure isn't too outrageous, perhaps 110 on the seat and 280 open with a cam that doesn't have too agressive profile. If you are going to run the boat hard think what a dropped valve would cost you as opposed to the cost of a set of SS valves. Don't forget the other stuff like a set of C/M retainers and a set of machined keepers. TRW/Federal Mogul make replacement steel valves but why pay the price for replacement when for the same price you can have S.S. at about $10-12.00 each?

058 is right, remember the saying "Pay me now or pay me later." IMO inconel exhaust valves are the only way to go on marine motors, wait till you see the price on those!
Cheap insuranace in the long run though. Aftermarket ss valves avail, check Summit, Jegs, PAW etc. Your wife aint seen nuthin' yet, right fellas?
