Now why would you want that stuff? Can't get a mag base dial indicator to stick to Nuthin! Since the resulting problems can be catastrophic, I'll be happy to solve them by trading you even for my Chev 454- all nice magnet-attracting IRON. Setup will be a snap.

Nope.
I thought about that, I have always used iron heads and blocks. I have always heard that you should stress relieve "green" parts.
I am guessing you are telling me I should have this done?
Would cryo do the same job?

There are three ways that parts are typically stress relieved ... Heating, Freezing (Cryogenic) and Vibrating them ... Some in NASCAR combine Cryo Treatment with Some Heat Treatment. Here recently, The Vibratory Method has begun to be used more as the equipment is becoming more available.
The Cryogenic Method (Done By Someone Who Really Knows How To Do It Properly) is currently the most used method for AL Blocks & Heads ... Now, All NASCAR, F-1, etc. motors (Billet Blocks) are cryogenically treated. The reason for treating the Blocks is to Relieve the Stresses built up in them them as a result of all the heavy machine work done on them ... The treatment is done after all the heavy machine work is done and right before the final line boring & cross hatching.
You might really want to consider having it done as a protective measure as you have quite a bit of money invested in what your building and the last thing you need is borehole distortion problems on down the road ... Which Are Typical in Non-Stress Relieved Big Cubic Inch/Higher Hp Motors ... Be they Al or, Fe ... And Yes, Not Stress Relieving a Higher Hp, Fe Big Block Can Definately Lead To Problems On Down The Road and Shorten The Useful Life of The Block and/or Cause you to have to get A New Set Of Larger Pistons at Some Point Way Before You Expected Having To.
You might want to PM or talk with Chris @ Stef's (cstraub69) as he knows quite a bit about Stress Releif Methodologies and reliable people down in his neck of the woods who you might want to get in touch with.
The above is Just a Suggestion ...

Interestingly enough, Dart was cold treating their TF heads back in the late 80's. You might be able to call them for some info. Rich Maskin is a pretty sahrp guy.
