The Bloodhound "Knotty" won best in show at the Ecanuba National Championships. Knotty's a 4 year old male from California, and is one of the best looking hounds I've ever seen.
I say "one of the best" because MINE is THE best looking hound around. :D

Deb and I were watching that yesterday, the Group champions. That was one good looking hound. I told Deb I'd like one of those some day. They look so cool.

He's on his way again.
Knotty just won Best of Breed (Hound Group) at Westminster, the grand-daddy of all Dog Shows.
We'll have to see if he gets Best of Show here, too..

I'm sorry but I'll have to agree. What the/who the heck is that? Is that breed calm? We have a Jack Russel terror.... that's not a TYPO, he's a terror.

Not this year. :(
The German Shorthair won. And deservedly so. She was awsome and flawless in the ring.

The Blood was still my favorite, though.

The bloodhound and others that won their group were clients of mine. As well as many others that won their breed... :rollside: :rollside:

Alan, a bloodhound is an awesome dog for a cop to have. They are really great dogs. Until they start bawling at nothing. Need to be inside at night, IMO. I think it's almost time for another dog thread.

Alan, a bloodhound is an awesome dog for a cop to have.
Then I must be twice as awesome.
I have 2 of them. :D
And yes, when they begin baying, it's one of the most annoying, yet beautiful, sounds on earth. Especially to someone who's lost in the mountains or deserts.
I'm kind of glad that the Bloodhound didn't win Westminster. When a particular breed of dog wins a big, national show like that, everyone wants one. The puppy mills start turning them out, which floods the bloodlines with inferior dogs.
On top of that, many people don't realize the quirkiness of Bloodhounds. Stubborn, independant, extremely mischevious, buckets of drool, tail that'll clear a coffee table in one swipe, etc. Many people who get bloods aren't ready for that adorable little puppy to turn into a 125 lb hounddog, and a lot end up in shelters. There are currently hundreds of bloodhounds in Rescue homes right now. If Knotty would have won, hundreds more would have ended up there in few years.
I think I'll always have bloodhounds, buit the next one(s) I get, will come from the Bloodhound Rescue Network.
I urge anyone who wants a particular breed of dog, not to get them from a Pet Store, but from a reputible breeder, or better yet, from a Breed Rescue.

My dad got "Bubba" from the pound. He's gorgeous and everything you've said as to their characteristics. He's mellowed out a bit but they still have to use the dead bolts on the outside doors as he can open them, and the refrigerator, horse trailer and knows how to turn on the hose spiget. He has eaten a pair of binoculars, numerous cigars and one digital camera. One things for sure, that dog can get the chicks better than any puppy or cute little kid. The ladies love him.
I've had quite a few hounds (mainly Black & Tans) and people who don't use them to hunt or track have absolutely no idea what they're all about. They usually end up getting rid of them because they don't want to deal with the noise, hassle or the tenaciousness of a hound once they lose their tempor around other dogs.

Thjat is a great blood. But like you Alan, i'll keep my doggie Mary Mageline, a champ bread bassett. She loves Havasu water off the cliff area at the tip of the island. Shalow water for short legs.
