anyone have any good ideas for a small cheap dolly that will hold my boat so i can roll it in and out of the garage. I can't fit the boat and trailer, but would like to pull the boat inside so i can work on it.
thanks
p.s. i rent so i can't cut the garage door.

That's a great question!... However for myself I could use one with an electric motor that would push and pull the boat around. As many of us know once ya start to turn a tandem trailer,it just locks up! I'am sure some boat yards must use em!

If you go by your local boat shop to check out what they use and have a welder you can build one real easy and fairly cheap in a couple of evenings. You can also cut the your trailer tongue off (if it is square tubing)and install a sleeve . I did this on my trailer and it is a good theft deterent in parking lots. Just unbolt the tongue and take it in the hotel room with you.

2 X 2 box tubing with some beefy casters and some nice bunks! It is so much nicer to work on a boat on a dolly as it's lower with no fenders in the way!

J whitney sells one through their catalog, it looks like a lawn seeder kind of without the bucket and has a tow ball on it, and it looks pretty beefy, there are two differnt kinds, one is like 40 and the other I think is 70, but no electric powered one, I am getting one for my tandem trailer, I just have some friends help push !! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif

I built one out of 2x6 for the same reason and put some good wheels on it. It pushes or pulls very easy (no motor in boat)cost about 50.oo to make

a company named yardarm makes dollies , i would mount a trialer winch in the garage to yank the boat off trialer and onto dollie and the the trialer winch on the trialer to put it back on , hint if its a bunk trialer use pledge on the bunks it works great

Tahitijet, You may want to look at a thread that was in here a few months ago. It was about trailers that have a fold away tongue. This way you can move the boat with your pick-up then just fold the trailer away. As I remember there was also a website for this product. I'll see if I can find the link for you and post it.

I checked out Yardarm's website. No good pics of their boat dollies but here is a pic of their PWC dolly. This should give you an idea of how to build one.
