I've been considering getting back into telcom. I have 5 years experiance as a copper splicer. The contracting side of the buisness went down the tube in 2002 so I got out of it. I am a experianced Journeyman Splicer in both Bell and GTE/Verison plants. I have heard through the grapevine that SBC will be doing alot of fiber work in the years to come. I thought this may be a good time to get in. Can anyone connect me with someone on the inside?

Just call the employeement office. I think they are up in LA still
Do you work for SBC? It seems as though these jobs are always obtained by someone on the inside.

I worked for them for 9 years and left to start my own company. 20 years into mine and never looked back.
Do you know anything about the fiber splicing going on now?

Don't be lazy, call there damn 800 number. I actually did that when I was setting up mine. Took a little time, but they were cool and fixed my problem easy.

Don't know the job market there but here in Georgia Fiber splicers/installers are struggling to find work. We have been interviewing a lot of people for some technician slots and we keep getting these people who have a buttload of fiber experience but no real instrumentation experience. The market here is flooded with people trying to get back into the fiber market. Wages are lower than ever.
