I want to say up front, i am not a big ACLU fan, but when i came across this little item, i wanted to share it if only for the fun factor and the what if part of it, i can only imagine what my life would be like if it were me on the other end of the phone. Hope you can enjoy it for what it is to me just a cute but somewhat thought provoking little film.
TOTAL ELECTRONIC DEPENDENCY (TED)
I suggest that people should seriously consider whether technology is
the modern day equivalent of the biblical false idol. Relinquishing
one's power to an electronic master for the promise of a false sense of
security is very shortsighted. And if you think that the below video is
more suitable for the Comedy Channel and should not be taken seriously, I
suggest that you have been watching the wrong program. A National ID
card is the first step to total electronic dependence. Separate and aside
from the obvious political agenda, each person connected to the
"matrix" would exist at the mercy of the computer program created to control
the system - a terrifying thought during our technological adolescence.
And though I am aware of the apocalyptic mindset of our present
administration, the insidious mindset of virus-writers, and the
ever-resourceful computer hackers, I still find that the greatest threat will
eventually come from artificial intelligence. There is presently no real
justification to travel down such a path. The terrorist threat is
fraudulent. We are being manipulated into believing that the National ID card is
necessary for our own protection - when just the opposite is true.
Please note the legal corollary: The police can not obtain a legally
admissible confession from a defendant by forcible compulsion - but one
obtained by treachery and chicanery is allowed in Court. If we are tricked
into giving up our power to Silog we will have no one to complain to
when we find ourselves prisoners of its totalitarian security system.

Sorry, not buying it  They can't even keep up with all the tax cheats, they can't find a 6'6" man on dialysis in the middle of the desert. The slippery slope types are at it again. I'm more worried about giving the grocery stores my info for a club card that enables me to get the real price as an incentive. I just shop elsewhere. Come on out of the bunker, it's gonna be ok:D

Whether we like it or not, we are going to have to allow a national ID system. Other nations have used them for decades. The advantages outweigh the problems. We ended the problem of truckers having several driver's licenses by going to the CDL. Creating a standard for identification and licenses will stand a better chance of catching illegals and crooks. It is not like we are not in a bunch of business data bases already.

That's what I was trying to get at.

I'm not paranoid but saw that as funny and more than likely there is already a data base for us online types, every mouse click, every page visited, cookies, data miners.... and on and on....

I think there is already a national id in place. It is called a Social Security number and to some extent a drivers license. :D
