Why?
Volkswagen hasn't made a decent car since they discontinued the Classic Beetle.

I would have agrred with this statement up until 2001.
My daughter was getting a new car, I was staunchly against anything other than Toyota or Honda, she wanted a Jetta. (Toyota had no "cool" cars, Civic was played out)
We got her a Jetta. (Daddy's girl)
Well, three years later it still a pretty darn good car. I must say I am very surprised by and pleased with Volkswagon. :notam:

Today I was looking at Consumer Reports Cars and the Volkswagens were all at the bottom of the list. I was suprised by the data!

I agree since I have a 64 & 69 Beetle but it seemed to work for RacecarHotshoeaccident (http://www.***boat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68552&highlight=jetta) :hammerhea
I also have a friend that got hit pretty good and the car saved her too. They may not be old school but they are safe. Although I have heard the Jetta is not very great mechanically.

Hope you didn't mind me referencing your thread but from those pics it seemed that VW did well for you and your wife. Glad you guys are still around to talk about it too. :)

That is what my friend did that got crunched in her VW passat. She bought another one. She also just about a month ago got hit sideways on the freeway by someone and rolled her 4-runner a couple times so she bought a Toureg.

The volvo is the only car that is safety rated higher.

We bought an 04' Passat at the end of the model year. 1.8T, tiptronic, cd, sunroof etc for about 21k OTD. We bought from the internet guy at New Century in Glendale, CA. PM if interested and I will find the guys name and card. I believe a Jetta would be a little bit less.

I've got an 01 Jetta Wolfsburg edition 1.8T and it is a great car. Fast as hell, fun to drive, 27 MPG and thats driving it hard. If my girlfriend drives it she gets about 29 MPG. I have not had 1 problem with it except the latch on the console breaks about every 8 months. I just dropped it off at the Dealer 5 minutes ago to get another new one. Other than that its cheap, fast, fun and reliable. I've heard the safety is outstanding, but dont have first hand experience...thank god.
