Which will cost more to insure a 300 Pro Max outboard or a 496 HO sterndrive? Does the insurance industry know that 300hp on with an outboard is different that the 425hp from a sterndrive.

Do some research, people with smaller cats are having trouble getting insurance. 496 shhouldnt be a problem, but in that size you will want twins and it is gonna caost you on the twins(300'x), but you will have turn key reliablity. Who makes a new 24

Not shure on insurance but I think the old 24' Skaters with a single wacker run in the 90+mph range.

Just be careful, rigging outboards is not done by alot of people and If they have never done it, you may be the test case. I know I dont want to be anyones test case

What can they mess up? set the "X" dimesnion wrong? That's all adjustable w/ a jackplate. Not enough/ to much setback? That's quick and easy.
Outboards are easy. Mount it centered, straight, and go.

Usually outboards run more expensive with insurance than stern drives.

No, just trying figure out what I might be able to get. I just call for a quote on for a CAT but I still think it will be too high. I think the smart move will be to go with a V-hull that I can use year round. But something about a CAT floating above the water at 85+ would be a blast. The insurance companies say that the rates on CAT are higher because they are faster and more of a risk to crash, but that is why they are fun. Also looking into getting a Blue motor so I can go a little than you guys with an HO.
:D
Once again thanks for the ride.
