RJ, I have never a diesel jet hot boat, I think it is amazing that they would put a diesel in that type of boat at this day and age, in 73 they were just getting into putting that kind combo in anything.

Back around 1980 or so, at the Parker 9 hour enduro, Bob Nordskog (powerboat mag) showed up with this big tunnel running some kind of diesel hooked up to an outdrive. It was really funny to watch. The thing was such a dog out of the hole that after the start of the race, which was a Le Mans start, he would have to hang back behind the rest of the pack and make huge circles in the middle of the river trying to get this thing to build up enough of a head of steam to get on plane, all the while this diesel is belching out huge , black smoke rings. It ran ok once he got this thing moving, I don't remember how he placed with it, but he would have to repeat this circle thing every time he came into the pits or lost his hook up in a turn or something.
Man, that 9 hour was a fun race to go to!
