With the cost of new boats, why does it seem that used Jets and V-drives seem so reasonable? I've seen a lot in the $3500 to $5000 range that would serve anyone real well with a minimal amount of work, mostly cosmetic.
One would think with the cost of a new Performance boat to be a minimum in the low $20,000 range, the price for used boats would go up too

Bought my jetboat back in 1989 for $2500, performed a full resto. Some paint work, new interior, engine and rebuilt pump and I'm good to go! Still under 10k including purcase price. People ask me all the time if the boat is "new" and I tell them no, It's 25 years old!

Same here. I have a 1975 and people ask me if it's new.
I had never thought about what Cas42 is saying but he has a good point.

You all proved my point. I know if I wanted to replace my boat with a new one, it would be around 30K. Granted, I get a few things I don't have now but I'm having just as much fun and probably more.

Fat rat, years ago my boss had it sitting behind his office at a summer resort. I detailed his boat and fixed his windshield and he sold to me for 400 or 500. It was just the hull and the berkeley jet pump and trailer, no seats or motor or gauges. When I move it to my summer place the old owner came by and gave me all the paper work on it including the owners manuel and told mehis son took it apart and lost the parts so he bought a new IMP. so I now have a 28 ft Hawaiian jet boat.
lucky find.

And for the really thrifty, boat & trailer with pump 800.00. A pumped L88 bbc for another 800.00 interior 1200.00, paint materials 900.00, Pump rebuild 1200.00 motor mods for jet boat 1100.00. misc. 1000.00. Total for refreshed boat aprox. 7000 for almost a new boat that you know about every nut and bolt. This is for my 1st jet but my 4th boat that I've refurbed. I've wanted a Jet boat since the 1st time I saw one this site has already taught me alot and saved me untold $$$$$ along the way and I'm still not done yet. THANKS ALL!!!!!!!!!! Don

I too have scored a killer deal on a 1980 rogers custom boat, total I will have 5000 into it with a new 450hp 454 rebuilt pump new cables and new interior, I've already been told that it could be sold for between 7000 and 8000. just gotta look around.

I crossed over from cars thinking a boat was easier and cheaper. Wrong! It is however a lot more fun. Bought a 20 or 21` Southwind, I really don`t remember how long it is. Got it for 1300 with a basketball sized hole in it. It was an insrance job with a log. Did a full resto late 90`s style. Set me back 20k. But it looks awsome! I even like to trailor it around just to show it off.
