12.1 destroked 454 (439 CI) dynoed at 557 HP @ 6000RPMs.
What fuel would be good for, first and foremost, prevent pre-detination, secondly, good all around performance and lastly, affordability.
Some folks say retard and run 92 pump fuel. Others say 50/50 110 0ctane race fuel, some say 100% 110 race fuel.
What are your experiances and results with simular conditions? What jetting changes were needed for sucsess?
My biggest problem is Here in San Angelo, all race fuel has to be ordered and shipped in....I do have 1 dealer who can get VP purple. Unocal 76 110 looked to be the best and cheapest on the net. Thanks for your valued oppinion

running a mix of 92 and av gas might be your best bet on availability. see if your local municipal airport will sell to you and try that.

I also have a 440 BBC with over 12:1 CR, I use 114 Trick and 92 Pump at about 50/50, the previous owner ran as little as 1/3 Trick and there doesn't appear to have been any problems (I have engine apart right now). I can't comment on Av-Gas, but I'd guess 50/50 with that may keep you safe, as for 12:1 CR on pump gas...ya right! Of coarse there are many things that will effect what octane will work properly in a high CR mill, quench height, timing, head shape, piston shape and stuff I probably don't understand.

This is interesting, especially the homebrew part at the bottom.
