Mike,
It looks absolutely bitchen. What's more impressive is that it will look even more badass sitting in direct sunlight after they buff it out!!!! You're gonna have plenty of folks envying you in that thing. Finally, we'll get to see one of these things run the number.

Jake, I'll throw this up and Ultra 28 can correct me if I'm wrong. Until the deck is glassed to the hull, there isn't a lot of structural rigidity up front. Environmental factors could cause things to twist around, then you'd have a hell of a time getting the cap setup properly on the hull. The 2x4 just serves to hold everything in place until the deck is joined. Once its on there, there is plenty of rigidity and the 2x4 can take a hike.

I am not going to make it out Danny. Got too much going on. We are supposed to go in 2 weeks too. Next week is the drags... Plus I went out last night and didn't make it home until 4:45. Slept for 2 hours, came to work with a wicked hang over.
Ano is the only way I would go. I am not a big fan of powdercoating on boat hardware. On trailers, sand car, or hotrod frames it looks good though.

Boat sure does look awsome. Or as my daughter would say,"Sick" Or "thats Fat".
Being that there is not much of a bulkhead, I guess it's ok to have the wood up againt the hull? I thought  it should have a gap between the wood and hull so as not to cause stress cracks. It looks like there is between the deck and bulhead. But I'm not a boat builder and as nice as boat that is I'm sure they know what the hell there doing,so I'll shut up now .thanks :D

No, you were almost on to something. I was thinking the same thing. If you study the bulkhead nearest you in the pic, on the left you can see tht the wood isn't touching the hull. Atleast thats what I concluded!

ULTRA28
02-26-2005, 09:40 AM
Yes, there has to be a gap. I'm sure it is just the picture that makes it look like it touching, but I will double check when I go into the shop today. Thanks.

MudPumper,
I'm not 100% on this, but I believe the blocks of wood are there to keep the deck and hull alligned while they do the bonding work. They need a mechanical means of holding everything in place while they lay the glass that will hold the two halves together.
Chris

Where you been chet??? i'll try anything once. if it breaks then its back to the drawing board. i'll tell you one thing, its one of the nicest looking bronze impellers i've ever seen that wasnt blueprinted. And rigging will be much easier with the dual water inlet feeds cast into the suction housing. no more braided hoses outside the boat. the innercooler and motor will have their own water lines right inside the transom. clean!

So how do you get the rail kit adjusted so you have the right angle on the rail kit? Is there a tool to measure the degrees the engine is sitting relative to the pump?

well there are two tools you can use to measure the angles.
the first is a high tech digital Smartool that works great...

cyclone, I know it's probably too late but, I have witnessed more then one suction housing crack under the front bearing support when using the jetaway. I think it could be the extra torque applied with the added leverage, not sure though. On the braces I have helped install The jetaway makes a nice place to add a support also tieing in with the intake on the front bolts then run out to the stringers. This is by NO means a bash or implied that Duanes jetaway is at fault, they are a great piece of hardware. As you know the stock suctions are just not really designed for big power and need all the help they can get. Your hull is comming together nice and looks great. I will snap a few pics this weekend of the support brace system to which I speak of. Did I mention thanks for all the sharring of the build? watching everybodies projects unfold keeps the cabin fever to a minimum for me. R.B.

i appreciate the input and would love to see pics of your project. I haven't started building it, but there will an additional pump support on top of the bearing support. TPR recommeded it like you did. I'll take all the advice i can get to keep things safe and in one piece! Thanks again.

By "seat time" i didnt mean making 1/4 mile passes at the lake. The last place i want to learn to run this boat wide open is the middle of lake elsinore. I want to get familiar with the boat, how everything works, and chase down any gremlins before I get to the track. I dont want to pay $$ to find water leaks or anything else that may need adjustment. Just want to get it all dialed in and then go to the track and have my fun. :mix:

I agree, nice ride, that thing should fly. Look out CS19.
Hey, at 450 lbs +- pounds, how durable of a lake boat will it be. Will you be able to walk on the deck and side and be able to take some rough water at the lake? Im not familiar with boats that light so i was just wondering.

cyclone
03-31-2005, 03:55 PM
i bought the pump separately from the boat. Give John West a call at Ultra and he'll give you a price.
As for durability, at the moment the deck is strong enough crawl all over. After i cut the holes for the gauges in the dashboard, who know? I'm guessing she'll be sturdy enough for my fiance to lay on and get a tan. I dont plan on spending much time sittin on the boat. ;)

at 450 lbs +- pounds, how durable of a lake boat will it be. Will you be able to walk on the deck and side and be able to take some rough water at the lake? Im not familiar with boats that light so i was just wondering.
i don't remember the weight being stated at 450? isn't it slightly above that? anyway, 450 won't be a problem.

Bob's correct. the hull weighed 486 lbs bare.

Mines a similar weight, I havent had any problems, but I cant go out on rough days, and I sure as hell cant go plowing through chop.
Im very cautious with mine when it comes to wakes, etc. I think if you pay attention, you can get by with a light boat on the riv.

Mike where are you gonna run it for the first time?
I think you should run it at the river for the first time. Maybe FB challenged? Thats where I first ran mine, I was so paranoid with all the jet skiis and not knowing that stretch of river, but sure was fun.

last night was productive. Tommy, Todd and I completed the glasswork on the keel and today we'll sand it and gel coat. Then it'll be a mad dash to put it all together in time for FC..
I plan to run it at elsinore the first time, Chris. I dont want to haul it to the river to find out i need to tweak things or chase down leaks. I'd like FC to be a nice, relaxing and trouble free weekend. If i can putt the boat around and just get through it without the anything breaking i'll be stoked.

Mike,
Are you going with all different colors on your hardware? Sampling from the colors in the gel and using that selection based upon what color is closest to the part that is getting rigged in? Is the orange a candy, or just straight orange? Looks like you went with some candy colors, so it should look even better in sunlight. What color/material are you using for your seat covers?

the orange and blue hues are candy's, the grey has a bit of metal flake in it. The seats will be grey with blue/orange piping in tweed/vinyl.
