This excerpt is from the Delta Scuttlebutt newsletter:
[] Help Save Calif. Dept. Of Boating & Waterways
Clearly, in Sacramento, we boaters are considered to be fat cats,
ready for skinning. We are thought to be wealthy ladies and
gentleman of leisure. We get little sympathy.
Our healthy treasury at CalBoating, even though it is derived
mostly from fuel taxes paid by boaters, & is intended to further
the boating causes, seems like a handy place for other agencies
to dip into to improve their own budgets.
Again, there is a likelihood that attempts will be made to
integrate the CalBoating into some other government agency, such
as Parks & Recreation, so that our funds can also be integrated.
Please help ward this off by sending a letter to the Little
Hoover Commission to essentially tell them hands off CalBoating.
To be effective, this needs to be done by Feb. 4. There is a
suggested sample letter from ROBC on our site at:
http://www.californiadelta.org/political.html
This is the second assault on the CalBoating in as many years. I urge all Californians to send an email to try and save this valuable dept. once again.

Keep 'em coming!
Last year, letters from the public kept the govenator from cutting the very same Dept.

The latest news is that DBAW (Dept of Boating and Waterways) made it off the chopping block this year, but is still part of the CPR (California Performance Review)...so they will be okay for another year.
This news came to me yesterday from an email from the California Boating Safety Officers Association, which members are boat cops and life guards from around the state.
