Angel decoy...

These are photos of an Air Force C-130 releasing flares to repel heat seeking Missiles. The pattern formed by these "decoys" are how they got their name . . . Angel decoy. It's absolutely awesome!
Maneuvers are usually in remote areas and over water, therefore the general public does not get to view these exercises.

Sweeeeeeet. That is a sh1t load of flare. They carry a crap load of chaff as well but it doesn't look as pretty. As a matter of fact you probably couldn't see it. America's weaponry is sooooo awesome :hammer2: :hammer2: :hammer2: :D

What is chaff anyway?

flares as you see are hot and they will fake out heat seaking missles. Chaff is little shreded pieces of material (like aluminum) that are stored in the same style of container. When they are punched off they create a cloud of aluminum material that a radar guided missle will go after instead of the aircraft. Just another way to beat the bad guys..... Isn't America great....
