Looking into buying a new anchor. Is there a big differance between a box anchor vs a flute style? Any Suggestions?

IMHO, a box anchor is the only way to go. I've held 10 boats off my one anchor at my local lake and had a few times that it's set so well we had to tie it off and drag it to get it loose. I'm sold. :D

Yup, the box anchor is pretty good. I have also heard good things about Dana's new anchor.

Just buy a box type anchor, and be done with it. No chain required, and you don't have to spend a bunch of time trying to set it.

Go with the Box... I just toss it off the boat and it sets itself. very easy to use, especially after you have had a few.

You have options now too. You can buy the original box anchor, or Dana Marine is making their Jaws anchor.
I have both, and each has it's good features.

Jaws anchor- lighter, locks in both open and closed position (no pinched or smashed fingers), available powdercoated or stainless (costly).
Both good products.

I bought the Box based on recommendations from this site. It's by far the best anchor that I've ever used.

in arizona its all about the mushroom anchor. 10 years of boating on 11 different lakes with 2 different types of boats and never have had a problem

Last weekend I was going nuts trying to keep my flute anchor set in 10-12' of water at Parker. I had tried to drag it and it didn't set. I dove down and couldn't get it to grip good. I wasn't sleeping too well so after the second night I finally broke down and bought a box anchor. It set itself right away and held tight for 4 more days. It didn't budge an inch. I just retired my flute for good. It was worth the money no doubt.
By the way, I use a chain and always will. I can't believe some of you guys with $100,000 boats with plenty of room and power won't have 6' of anchor chain? Anchors always work better with chains.

I have witnesses. There is a current, not like the river, but usually some wind too and my boat is a big kite. Humbug Cove at Lake Pleasant. AZJD and Big Warlock were there for it and it's happened multiple times.
People that don't know how to set anchors run into problems there. You know, the ones that let the anchor out until it hits the bottom and then tie off. They'll start at the mouth of the cove and you can watch them drift all day long back towards the back until they're out of sight.

Another nice thing about the box anchor is NO CHAIN NEEDED! This means less gel coat damage after a few too many!

Yeah, so was the Frenchie thing the first 5 times you said it a year ago. Sorry I might have been to subtle and not heavy enough on my sarcasm with the point I'm trying to make. Looks like you missed the point of the exercise. :notam:
Seems as though you've lost focus MMD. All your Frenchie remarks are getting in the way of your porn posting. Can't let that happen.

Box anchor is the only way to go. Jordy has held 10 boats including the Donzi, and two other large boats, no problem. I have one for my boat and will never use anything else.
