What evil lurks in the heart of man, besides wo-man?
Car Boats!
I'm ready!
I have a blank 21ft Liberator(Daytona copy).
Has no stingers, originally set up for an outboard, but no differance in the molds.

Just need some bad influence!

I feel you, but where do I start?
Is there a hot tub car boat shop in Havasu?
LA?
If I have it done professionally, what can I expect for cost?
Expectations are for a 70-80mph boat.

Try giving john at Ultra a call and see if he can send you in the right direction or try the guys at DCB. I really dont think that anyone at Eliminator will bother to help.

Whooooaaahh there,
What do you mean boat shop... The only things I could really see being a pain in the ass are the Gel Coat(does it need it?), setting the intake and cutting the transom, and maybe getting some stringers glassed in there for rigidity. Everything else should be relatively DIY. Sure you may contract the pump and engine out to someone, but this is a sweet opportunity to do something from the ground up. That way if something goes to shit later, there is none of that "freaking manufacture this, damn rigger that" to be had. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you shell out for the hull and what if anything did that include? Good luck with whatever power/propulsion you decided to install. Oh yeah, and as long as it's tight and hauling ass, I don't think its on the dark side of the force.
Good luck,
Chris

I thought you were the eggbeater king of this board Barn?

Say it ain't so, Joe.
Has "Scream and Cry" forsaked you?
So let me get this straight. You want to go slower, and join the ranks of the HTCB folks you've been baggin' on?
Perhaps you may have mixed that eggbeater just a little too rich over Labor Day.

I'll get flammed for sure but here goes. That would be sweeeeet with a blown big block with a b-max outdrive. Will cost way more but it sure would scream. A buddie of mine got a used #3speedmaster for prettty cheap and it worked sweet on his 26' cat. A jet would be the most cost effective way to go and will still be sweeeeeeeet! I love v-drives but would not recomemend one for that project.

Of course there is "the rest of the story",
I have 4 boats, several outboards, Now I'm cutting a deal on a new 24ft and want to sell the others and not sure if I want to part with the motors yet.
Thought I would see what all the fuss is about, only fair if I'm gonna knock something, I check it out!
Isn't that how we met HHangin? http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif
I think that hull and a jet would be a good west coast set up.
Guess I could sell the hull bare, so the next guy does not blame me for something I did....
I do have the interior for the boat, lots of gauges.
I was thinking I could set it up as a jet, not looking to make more money, just wanted to check out a jet and not get hurt..... http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif
Is this realistic?
1988 Liberator, interior, gauges and misc., I'm into it around $5K.
This picture was in Feb. 2001, rub rail need replacing otherwise boat is very clean, around 900lbs.

How about "3" 300hp mercs hangin off the back? That ought to scare anyone away from racing you.
I you hang 2 Honda 50hp 40-strokes off it I'll race you with my 21' jet boat!!!!

The debate on the new 24ft rages on.
2 new 300X's
vs
2 drag motors and nitrious
Really depends on how the relationship between myself and the builder develops.

If all you want is 70's or 80's I would stay away from blowers and associated headaches. I have a 21' Daytona with a normally aspirated 572ci Chevy and AT pump with AA impeller that will run 80's all day long on pump gas and has been reliable. The motor was built by Britt at Nu Tech automotive in the San Diego area, I can get his phone number if you are interested. Don't worry in addition to 2 Jets I have an Outboard and an I/O as well but given my choice I choose the Jet all the time to take out.

Reliabilty, pump gas two very good calls!
Something like your running sounds good, what can I expect for cost?
I do have a couple friends that can help with the boat set-up, looking for a 4-5K budget. Am I realistic?

I don't think so, I bought my boat used but I know the motor has more than that into it (Dart 360's, 1150 Dominator, Crower roller rockers and girdles, JE Pistons, etc, etc). Not to mention the pump/diverter/Stainless impeller. I'm not an expert on building engines so I'm not sure what that would buy you but keep in mind you also need a pump/impeller/diverter as well. What would 4 - 5K buy in an OB, 110hp?

Maybe we can get a collective together and donate old parts. I've got a set of logs and a rock grate to throw in! http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/forum/smilies/happy34.gif

5k for that that minus O.B. is pretty good, especially if it was on a trailer. Personally if I would have been able to find something like that, I would have found a way to scab the extra $$ for the initial project. On the motor, I don't have experience with tunnels, but it seems that there are a couple of guys going 80 naturally aspirated. The decrease in fuel consumption and omission of blower related expense, stress, and setup/tunning issues, sounds like a good idea. Either way, I'm glad to see you're up for trying something new and have little doubt you should be able to nail any goals you are looking at.

Barney... If your goin to do it do it right,
I just had my pump completely redone/maxedout
$2900 that don't leave much for an impeller turning device.
Damm the budget full speed ahead.
GO FOR IT!!!! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Maybe this would be a good project for hot boat to fallow. You could go recycle yard shopping and put together a pretty nice setup. Put a shopping list together and post it here and see what responce you get. You might get Greg to help, That should be alot of tech info for a few isues. We all want to see real life tech stuff without the national det price tag. LOL. Tim

I've got a JC bowl and a collection of mostly dinged up Aggressor impellers to start you off with http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
