Well. the interior project has begun. The seats are out and so is the carpet. I was fearing how the stringers would look once I got the carpet up, but everything is in order. All the old material is removed and ready for the new stuff. That crap makes a mess of everything. I figured I would give the WD40 a try on the steering system, but after a few tugs on the wheel, the internals let go under the dash, not a problem, I just have to get a small wheel puller to remove the main nut. Tomorrow, the seat covers get pulled from the frames and and new ones will be fabricated. I am still debating on how to do the barrels in the front. The new vinyl should be done in a couple of weeks. This is the great part, new padding and a very mild, custom 2 color interior is going to run all of $550. Not bad considering the prices coming out of California and other areas.
Hammer, I feel your pain buddy. Right now it looks like crap and wonder why it all got started, but in the end it will pay off... or something like that, right?
I know you guys really don't give a shit about any of this, but I just thought I would let you know. Later...

The seat frames are made. I have to admit I was scared about pulling the vinyl off the frames to see what miracles I would have to perform to create the barrel seats in the front. I was amazed at how easy it is to do. You just have to get some 1/4" lewan (sp?) and cut to size, soak it in water and form to your liking. The seat cushions are going to the shop tomorrow to get covered and the frames should be there by Thursday. Even the pulley cover for the engine in its rounded shape was simple following the lewan/ water route. So far, with new carpet, adhesive, frames and custom vinyl, my interior is costing $640. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif I know, it sounds like a half assed job, but it's not. Just have to find the right people.
Now I just need to find out where the small ass pinhole fuel leak is coming from in my passenger side fuel tank before I lay the carpet.

Way to go Wetdream.
ON your seat backs you should hook up with Hack Job on this board. He did his barrels out of a plastic and they are waaay stiffer than the wood route. Plus they wont ever rot out on the bottom of the barrel. As for the lewan, its Luan, I believe named after a region of the Philippines. It's a type of mohagony veneer the is used in many applications and to spruce up furniture made from less beautiful woods. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey Wet Dream,
Where you gettin your work done. I was quoted $850 for just seat skins in the DC area. I have to pull the old seat skins, do the base, foam and reinstall the new skins. If your guy is close to Western, MD it might be worth my while to swing by your way next time I'm up that way.

hey wet dream ,
if you need any help with the front seat set up feel free to email me i can tell you were i got the plastic and how thick it is and all. its way better than the wood and its quicker too because all you have to do is bend it as you screw ( i know that sounds funny http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif )it to the base also i would be sure that you resin the bases then they will last 100 times longer that just like topsons water seal or what ever. good luck

Hey Wet, I like to hear things like what your doing cause it helps me get through on what all I have been and still have to do to get my boat ready for the water and it really does help knowing that I am the only poor son-of-bitch that has his boat scattered all over the country side. Keep on
pluging along like I am and we will make it.

BobS,
When the telephone company dropped one of their telephone poles on my other boat and tore the cover, along with the destroyed windows, I was refered to a local upholstery shop to have the cover made. This gal has a small shop and does a lot of furniture work. I called her and asked if she did boat work and showed me the samples of vinyl that were made for marine use. I took one of the old seats and the pulley cover to her, she measured and came up with $500. I couldn't pass it up. I told her I wanted a few simple lines added and said it might run up to $550 to $600. This includes all new foam, I take the frames to her and she puts it all together. I guess I would just look for a small shop, that doesn't do commercial work and see what you get. I am up here in west-central PA, in Brookville.
Rat, whats this about bendable plywood? It must be 3/8" or less I would imagine.

Ok, the steering gets ordered on Monday, and arrives on Thursday. I'm excited, but the wife is telling me on the phone that something doesn't look right. It has a flat bar and 2 cables. What the hell is she talking about? So run 4 hours of conversations on the cell phone, never seeing this product, but telling the shipper that they sent the wrong part and calling the manufacturer to see if he knows what this part I have should be the right one. I know it isn't but he's telling me that I need to buy the Jet steering system to avoid liability issues with Teleflex, at a price of around $800. Ok dumbass, you're no help at all. So after a few days more on the phone, I am racing home to look for another place to buy a helm, regardless of price, and my wife calls again, this time to tell me that some guy in Florida is confused because he has a helm that won't work on his sailboat and I have a rack system that is useless on a jet. Someone got the labels wrong on the boxes and now I have to wait for next weekend for this thing to arrive. Ok, whats another weekend, as long as its what I need.

Here is the new carpet. The glue process is a messy job. In order to keep myself from getting glue on the carpet, the hull the this and that, I found myself stripping down as glue was getting all over my clothing. I think the carpet is a little lighter than I wanted, but to redo it would be easy.

The new steering system is in and works wonderfully. So is the throttle. Next week the seats should be done and the new headers and oil pan will be installed. I did a high speed buff out on the hull and God damn, it looks like a new boat. Things are starting to come together. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif

Ok you guys keep talking about plywood thats bendable? Whats up with that? Im going to be making some seats for the Schiada very soon. Also whats the deal with the Plastic Seat Back?

flat broke

Dan,
Any thin plywood is bendable if you soak it in water for 24 hours or more then use heat to bend it. The problem with the thin ply is that it breaks down over time. Even if you use all stainless staples, brads, etc; when you do barrel seats, the ply is going to break down eventually.
The plasitc is a slicker route to go, if you can find some that is flexible enough not to crack when you bend it. Hack Job found some good stuff and I think paid around $40 for enough to do two barrels. He didn't have to heat it or anything. Just drill holes where it would be screwed to the bases with stainles hardware and set em up. Once he screwed em down they were far more rigid than the wood barrel backs and won't ever rot out.
I think Hack Job took some pics when he was doing the seats so maybe he could help out with some images.
Hope that helps,
Chris www.liquidaddiction.net (http://www.liquidaddiction.net)

I been collecting pictures for a while now. I have a pretty good idea what im going to do. http://free.***boat.net/gallery/Reader_Rides/V-Drives/tn_The_Interior.JPG
