Well, I'd thought I'd do an installation thread while I installed my new In-Control throttle/shifter.
422-SFT (http://www.incontrolequipment.com/products.asp?ProdID=15)
I bought mine from Gary Teague at GT Performance (http://www.gtmarine.com/main.php) in Montclair, CA. By the way, Gary is a great guy and very helpful.
I started by removing the old Quicksilver throttle/shifter.

OK. I started this Saturday. It just came up today. Time to give you more info.
After romoving the the old shifter/throttle, I ended up with the raw cut out on the hull.
http://home.earthlink.net/~tvwebguy/boat_pics/old_removed.jpg
I cleaned it up and prepped for the new one.

Next, using the template, I cut out the mounting holes for the new throttle/shifter.
http://home.earthlink.net/~tvwebguy/boat_pics/prepare_hull_2.jpg
Then I expanded the center hole.
http://home.earthlink.net/~tvwebguy/boat_pics/prepare_hull_last.jpg
Later, I cleaned up the center hole and smoothed it out.
Next, I connected the control arms to the shifter and throttle cables.
http://home.earthlink.net/~tvwebguy/boat_pics/cable_connect.jpg
They later connected to the back of the actual throttle shifter.
http://home.earthlink.net/~tvwebguy/boat_pics/backside.jpg
My next step was to adjust the shifter cable and the throttle cable at the engine end.
http://home.earthlink.net/~tvwebguy/boat_pics/cable_adjust.jpg
Next, I test fitted the controls. I had to make a few adjustments to the holes I drilled. It was a snug fit.
http://home.earthlink.net/~tvwebguy/boat_pics/fitting.jpg
Lastly, I connected the cables to the shifter/throttle using locktight to make sure the bolts stay tight. I fired up the motor to test things out. Another quick adjustment on the engine side and I was all set.

I really like the way this controller looks. It's a great improvement over the original. Better control and better looks. The one part of this project I haven't shown you is the three switches I had to move. The original control had the trim switch, trailer switch, and run switch in it. I haven't finished moving these around. I ordered a trim switch for the steering wheel and I need to make a run to RexMarine and pick up a new switch panel that will include the trailering switch. I'm still figuring out where to mount the run switch.
I'd like to say thanks to BadBlown. He helped me find this great shifter/throttle and offered me some great advice.
This is my first how-to thread. I hope it helps someone else. :)

Good Job!!! Looks good, now you said you started the boat up and made a quick adjustment. While it was running did you try to slip it into gear or is that something you will be trying at the lake?

I started the boat in the driveway. My rpms were to high at first. So, I turned the engine off, then made a quick adjustment on the throttle cable and I doubled checked the shifter cable to make sure I was in neutral. A "true" test is forthcoming on the water. :)

That looks great. I would like to try that to replace the foot throttle in my day cruiser. I have a transmission so I would be using it to shift while running. Which lever is throttle and which is the shifter?
Thanks
Gary

The lever with the bigger knob is the throttle. The lever closer to the gunwale is the shifter. It took me some time but the project was really pretty simple and straight forward. In-Control has several foot throttles. Check out there website. The link is in the first post. Good luck!!!

I have that same POS quicksilver throttle/shifter and have been looking for a replacement. That looks like a great alternative.
How are you going to trim the drive?

Does the shifter for reverse and foward have a lock from it popping out into neutral? And did you use the same cables?

I bought a trim switch that mounts like a blinker in a car. Later, I plan on adding a steering wheel mount switch.

There is a notch that the forward/reverse snaps into when it is in neutral. It would be very hard to just bump it out of neutral. Also, I did use the same cables. The shifter cable was no problem, just a minor adjustment. The throttle cable worked, but, barley. I had to adjust it to its max in one direction. I plan on replacing it soon.

Looks great. All said and done, what kinda cost is involved in a project like this? I'd like to make a change to offshore controls over the winter and am wondering if it was a small fortune to do....
thanks,
MOB

O.K. that sounds good. I got a price of about $ 625 for the shifter alone, is that what you paid for yours. I was going to order it, but wanted to make sure I wasn't paying double for it.

That price sounds about right. It's not a cheap project, but, it makes a huge difference. Worth every penny.

Cool thanks, yeah nothing about a boat project is ever cheap.

First off GREAT JOB and thanks so much for showing the great work . I really like this style since it sits close to the side. I have been attracted to this style but I wonder what the advantage is. You know when you have those tight docking times....when you are going in and out of reverse quickly? I have been able to do this very well with the merc style and wonder if I could with that style. second ,I would hate to loose my trim with my left thumb,it couldnt be better when I need to keep my hands in place. It looks like a very well built unit and wonder if they could place a switch there? Thanks again and if someone could tell me the advantage other than cosmetic which it looks great.

I have the Incontroll shifter with a foot throttle and left foot trim...I like it a lot....the pedals help lock your self in when in flight of course!

Ingvey, what model is your merc shifter. I am also looking ot upgrade, but only to the one lever style with the built in trim thimb switch. I have the stocker, but no trim in the handle. I will eventally go to a foot throttle to go with the regular shifter/throttle for the fun of it, but I dont like the offshore type for the same reasons you point out. SLick set-up, but I feel I have better control with an all in one unit.

Rex Marine makes a cool billet switch you could easily attach to the throttle. As far as the dock does, I like the throttle seperate from the shifter. I can go forward to reverse as fast as I'd like to with no worry of accidentally going to fast in one direction.
By the way, thanks for the compliments.
