Unfortunately my trailer came with...get this, 6 bolt 16" rims, the split-rim type, with bias-ply tires. I want to change the tires and rims and was wondering if I can go with a 15x10 or 8? Is metal better or will aluminum be sufficient? This is a single axle hauling a 19' boat.

I think 15x10 is wide for a trailer mine has 14x5 the tire size is i think a 185/75 i think.

14x5 or 15x5 is a good choice on tire's i would go with the goodyear marithon's alittle bit more in cost but way beter tire for trailer's ! that remind's me of a joke What do you do with 365 used rubber's? make a tire and call it a goodyear!

I have 14x8. I run White letter GT Qualifiers. I wanted the look. This was covered in detail. Look back in the forum.

Use a tire that is common and easy to replace. If you have an odd size or unusual tire and need to replace one on the road you'll be shit outta luck. Another consideration to think of is if you make them too pretty someone else may like them too and when you return to the ramp to pull your boat out of the water your trailer is sitting on blocks.

Single axle, eh? Use a high quality trailer tire. They can better handle the load capacity due to their construction, such as the stiffer sidewall, etc. Also, the bias plys trail better. Radials don't trail; they track. (Can you say, "high-side?") Put the radials on your tow vehicle where they belong. And no, that is not a case of mixing radials and bias plys.

The tires aren't in bad shape at all, but I question the bias tires since they are tubed and even towing 20 miles from the river to the house generates alot of heat on the tires. I don;t need a blowout on the way to Anna.
