Hey all, haven't been around for a while but as you will see I ain't been goofing off. Ran into a dude at the Motor City swap meet, turns out he has sitting in his garage a new never run K-B hemi. It was built back in the late 80's or so by Motion Dynamics in Chicago and was never used. Well, it's in my garage now and it'll be in the hydro next. Here's a parts list, all new never run.
Stage 8 (not sure on that?) water block, 6 bolt billet main, 4.310 bore
Donovan gear drive
K-B billet crank 4.500 stroke
Brooks 88 + 3/16 rods
BAE / Arias pistons 1.094 pin, teflon buttons
Madden roller cam 288 @0.050, comp rollers
Dart super mod twin plug water heads, o-ringed, with cast alum. covers
Stage V rockers
RCD / Pleuger 2 stage dry sump system, Milodon drive shaft
Dual MSD distributor drive
Indy valley cover
Indy Dominator intake
Chuck Nyutten 1150 Dominator
Fluidamper
Ain't it sick? except it needs a blower. I need zoomies, a bellhousing, Lenco button, blower intake, motor plates, etc., PM me if you have anything HEMI!

Awesome Jim. I'm jealous.
Better get a capsule for the hydro.
How about I sponsor you with a set of stainless headers and we put some turbo's on it?
I can hear the wheels turning now ..........

Chris;
A decent 354 or 392 core goes for 600- 750.00 out here in NY.
Last one I bought was about 3 years ago and ran me 500.00, it's a 1956 354.

If you can get a real 392 core for $750, I would jump on it. The crank and block is worth much more than that

Dang, except for the scoop and valve covers, thats my motor (minus nitro of course)

I heard that the old fueler guys ran the stock 392 cranks. Must be one hell of a crank!!!

Nope, It won't blow flames out the pipes and make noise.
Just Horsepower.

Some still do. The Winged Express still runs a stock block and crank, each with over 90 passes on them at 95% nitro(at that time). The key is fuel volume. While the winged express is 12-17 gpm, a modern TF is 75-80 gpm. The modern high gpm stuff beats up billet cranks and blocks, while the older low gpm stuff doesn't. I've talked to about a dozen people lately that run nitro since I'm going to put it in one of my boats at a lower %. I spoke with an NHRA A-fuel guy recently that said he gets 40 passes on a set of rods and pistons and about 80 on the billet crank, at 100% last year, if nothing goes wrong. Another nostalgia nitro funny car guy was on over 90 passes with his set-up which was an all iron chevy BB, including the Merlin heads. In fact they dont even tear it down between races, just after 2-3. A low volume of fuel and a good tune up is the common denominator I've noticed.

Theres an idea DetroitJim. Replace the distributor with mags, and an injector for the carb...A-Fuel.

Its probably a 331. 392's were only in cars.

There were 331, 354, and 392's in industrial equipment, but most were either 331 or 354's. The 392 also went into buses and trucks.
They built 354's up into the 60's for industrial stuff.

Not challenging, but curious..
The 392 are only made in 57-58 and were , by serial numbers, placed in the Imperial, New Yorker and 300's. The last year for the 354 was 1956 except for some marine and poly heads that went to 58. The 331, 354 and 392 are all Chrysler and dont have any production history after 1958. Desoto and Dodge had hemis, many are off numbers (325, 291, 340 etc) As far as I can research, the 354 and 331 are truck, equipment motors and the 392 was car only. All stopping at 1958 due to Production cost.
If theres more, I may go looking..??... But there are no records to the contrary. Chrysler did not sell crate engines at the time, so transplanting them from the car to buses or trucks could have been done.

You know I keep trying to talk marsha in to letting paul teach me to drive but she just keeps saying that my mother would kill her, so I guess that I am going to have to find a flat bottom herre in the mid west and build one myself with the help of family (Paul) of course. Then she cant complain if I allready own the boat.

No hurry on this one. I'm going to race this season with the exact BBC setup as last year, it's dead nuts dialed at 8.03-8.06. I'm going to set this one up to run 7 second class at Kentucky Lake, maybe open class at Ottawa, Illinois or Blarney Island. Right now the pistons and rods are at the shop, the stainless top rings are in from Arias. Getting custom taperwall H-13 wristpins made by Diamond to work with the pin buttons. I deburred the block and cleaned it up some.
This block has no lifter oiling, I may get the lifter bores bronze bushed or just run it the way it is. Anybody have bad luck with this?
Still need a blower manifold, flywheel, Lenco button, bellhousing, motor plates, etc.
