Ditched the O/T's in favor of T/T's for noise and because I heard that you can pick up 5 mph going thru-transom. :D

"What are you doing about the new noise law?"
Keepn' On Keepn' Doing Just What We've Been Doing ... Keeping the Boat Solely on the Liquid 1/4 Mile @ Santioned Events ... When Restrictions are placed on us There ... We're Done and Off To Something Else.
For Recreational Boating ... I'll stick with the 46 Ft. sloop ... Don't have to worry about "The New Noise Law" with it.

Has anyone even been out there yet to "TEST" the new noise law?

Just curious to see whos actually tried it, I know it depends on what boat they have a but a jet that can run 70-80 should give them a good chase right? Just pretend you never saw em and hammer it down

And when they catch up to you at the ramp, just tell them "gee officer, I couldn't hear your siren because my pipes are so loud!"

We don't have a new noise law here in GA but I picked up a set of Livorsi clampons off of ebay that should go on my OT's I will let you know later this year how they work.

every since I picked up my boat I've had the long spiral bassett mufflers in place and never worried about it. I have a nice sound altho it will probably not meet the law I launch at a private marina on the river and use plenty of water at higher rpms. on Parker strip my boat seems mighty quiet compared to most.

i guess I'll do what I've always done. If you see them from a distance, either shut off and float or turn and run like hell. Best thing is , don't launch at public boat launchs if you can help it. The cops watch them like a hawk!!! Budlight

has anyone thought about running the collecter mufflers like you would find in the Summitt catalog? It seems like these would be the best option for OT's and at least if it looks like you are trying maybe they wont hassle you.
I sure am glad that I have logs that enter under the water line.

if your boat was made before 1-1-93 then your allowed more db's 90 to be excact,if made after that then your allowed 88,i think that most of the jet boats will be fine i think its more for the offshore boats, the only way you could get in trouble is not to run some type of baffels.what they should worry about is the dumb jet skiers,in 99 they accounted for 11% of the water craft and 54% of the accidents, that to me is a bigger problem then a little extra noise.just my 2cents. :p :mix: :lightsabe

its in the new issue of hot boat page 32 frist paragraph.they did a huge test ,those numbers are what the cops should follow but we all know how that goes............. :220v: :2purples:

I have never had a problem at LOTO with open headers I guess that is one good thing about the midwest.

What to do...what to do. I know, I'll build a blown alky motor for my boat w/ zoomies!!! :D :coffeycup
Actually, Dynatech makaes some nice looking slip on adjustable mufflers that I'm considering for 4 into1 headers. They make a slip on merge collector that looks pretty cool too. I know nothing about their performance. They claim 4 to 8+db noise reduction with the muffler. Sold through Summit and Jegs. The other slip on mufler I was looking at is the Dynomax, but it's kind of funky looking.

I' m not doing anything until I get pulled over and tested. eff' em'
This whole noise law thing is un-American. It really pisses me off. Nothing is better than the sounds of exhaust.

DONT DRINK WHILE YOU BOAT. If you get pulled over, I will be OK. I can live with a ticket, not a DUI.
I will boat where my noisy boat is wanted.

Which lakes actually enforce the noise law?

Which lakes actually enforce the noise law?
i dont know where you boat but if you go to don pedro on the weekends you might get hasseled. Modesto res. i think still doesn,t enforce any sound law.
the new law is 90db at just over 3' off the back off your transom and just over 3' off the water line. they tested a jet w/ 540 n/a and it came out to 93db with bassett slip in mufflers.
found these they will make you legal when used w/ a slip in. might not look that great, but at least they are easily removable.

Well Jer I know "f**k em" is the knee jerk reaction to government forcing more of the never ending list of rules on us. But also I know you're smart enough to know that in the end the law WILL win and we all will have to conform.
To me it's not an insurmountable problem but just another hurdle.
One things for sure, Those who insist on running their boat open header or with zoomies are elevating the problem immensely.
I'm ready to go for the underwater exhaust tips again.
Even with the turbo's it's still real loud at WOT.
I'm more concerned that with the noise law there will be tacked
on a "No over transom exhaust" law.
Or a " No exposed hot exhaust pipes" law.
Or a " No exposed engines" law.
Those would be far more devistating.

I don't know if it will be enforced in Oklahoma or not but 87 DCB seems pretty low. the march issue of Popular Mechanics magazine has a test of several lawn mowers and they range from 94 DCB up to 99.5. I wonder who we could try to lobby to get the law repealed or changed?

I say worry about our boats when you start doing something about some of the hogs out there and those little rice rockets on the street, for god sakes. Leave us all the hell alone. Were only having fun if you can't handle the heat get off the water.......
