We are looking to get one of his prerunners in the next year or so. The owners name is Seth, he bought our old truck and trailer. You meet the nicest people through the Auto Trader.. :D

Extreme Performance, in Grand Terrace. Excellent car and great customer service reputation. Just a long wait for one of his cars.

Extreme double throw down is the only way that I would go. Nice rails for sure and they are very well built. Don't sound like they are going to vibrate apart when you are running hard, unlike some other manufacturers.

The PreRunner runs $45,000 w/o motor.

For those of us who regularly cruise Glamis, the sight of a long-travel sandcar is nothing new. In fact, when numbers such as $55,000, $65,000 & $75,000 are thrown around, some dunatics don't even bat an eye. On the other hand, I've seen grown men grab their hearts, fall to their knees as if they have a heart attack, when $35,000 is mentioned. In reality the range of buggies realistically runs $30,000 on up. What is the difference between at $35,000 rail and a $65,000 rail? We're going to lay out some different scenarios that might help you understand some of the differences.
First thing we need to bring up is the obvious fact that manufacturing companies have different operating costs. Obviously a company that has 20 employees and a 15,000 square foot facility is going to have more overhead than the typical family-owned shop, with maybe only three partners working together and a 3,000 square foot shop. Add in California's workman's comp, liability insurance, benefits and general expenses and this will play a big factor in the price of a buggy.
Next, is the manufacturer's reputation. Lesson #1. ALL LONG TRAVEL SANDCARS ARE NOT THE SAME. There are HUGE differences in the way sandcars are constructed that will determine the price. Let's put these into four categories:
Entry-Level cars
Mid-Level Cars
Mid- to High-End Cars
High-End Cars
There are a lot of companies that have adopted the attitude of putting great stuff on to begin with and then upgrading to really high-end components. Examples of these are Buckshot Racing, Alumicraft, Sandcars Unlimited, Funco, Suspensions Unlimited and others.

HDD is correct, I did not realize how differently each car handles. i originally thought they all pretty much drove the same right??? Not so there is an amazing difference in how these cars handle. Some are built for straight haul a$$, some built for tight turns, etc... It is very important that you test drive any car before buying to get the one that feels right. Even if you're not going to buy the highend car at least take one for a drive to get a feel for what they should be like... Also pony up for the power steering, it makes a huge difference in driver fatigue.

My Uncle just built a car with "Dessert Dynamics" out in the Victorville/Apple Valley area and Couldn't be happier.
I don't know if the prices have gone up but he has right at 38K invested and that included 385hp LS1, Mendeola, Power steering and all the goodies.
He installed the motor and trans and purchased some of the parts seperate to keep the cost down.
The rail is amazing and looks and rides as good if not better than some of the 75K buggies I have ridden in.
Let me know if you need a number.

Have you checked out Funco? I had one for 4 years without a problem. I wouldn't buy anything else. I have been in probably 20 different top end cars and nothing rides like them. They use air bags for the suspension which makes the buggy ride like a limo and handle killer. Every time out, my friends with other buggies could not keep up, and I only had a 200hp VW motor.

Maybe check with Bohica?, He's on GD all the time, and has spent a butt load of $$$ on his sand toys.

These Sand Rides seem to be reliable out on the dunes:

While eveyone elses rails seems to have all kinds of stuff breaking this brand seems to hold up.

Sandcars are like boats, bikes etc, everyone makes them now. so just check around and find a good spring deal. Tatum, Amplified etc have rad dual sport cars that look fun, so your not just stuck to the sand...cheers

Click the pictures for the links. I know both of the owners and if I was in the market for a car I'd snatch up either one of them in a heartbeat and not look back.

A friend of mine owns JB MotorSports down here in Oceanside. I went over and checked out some of their stuff and it seemed more then nice, and TOUGH.. Not your usual SandCar tough, I mean real tough.
www.jboffroad.com Give them a call and check them out. Ask for Jon Bono (owner) and tell him Dave Johnson sent you. (I've known him since I was 3 years old so maybe he'll give you a discount? :D)

They basically take Sand Limo Chassis, and then beef them up a bit, etc..

Goodluck with choosing a car. There are alot of nice builders out there and some are IMO overpriced. Shop around and drive the cars. Every Mfg. should be willing to take you for a run. My friend owns Eyeball fab and takes alot of pride in his work. His website is www.eyeballfab.com. Most of the cars mentioned above will run and holdup well. The only issues you should really see is with the motors and trannys. Goodluck.
