It is time for us to buy new batteries for our boat. I need some advice to witch one's everyone is having the best luck with. I don't have a huge stereo system and I have a 2003 350 mag, power hatch just a very normal set-up. I have been told by many people that two (2) yearÂ’s is about all you can get out of a boat battery so I know we need to replace our batteries.
What we need to know:
1) Brand names?
2) Where to get them? (In Southern Cal, we boat in Bullhead, AZ)
3) How much should we spend?
4) Do we need marine batteries?
5) What is the life expectancy of a boat battery?
Any and all information on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

do you have a dual set up with a perko switch, if so get 1 starting battires with the cca around 850 and the other for the stereo deep cycle, you might be limited to the trays you currently have as far as optamia, interstate or odasey s/p ect..

Interstate IMO is the best Battery on the market. They have the best warranty and you can find them anywhere, so if it goes bad you can get a replacement anywhere.
Go with a Marine Megatron. You should pay between $60.00-$80.00.
Rule of thumb is to change them every two years even if you are not having problems.

I usually replace the battery every year whether it needs it or not.
Cheapest insurance AND assurance. (Costco Special)
Nobody carries jumper cables in the middle of a lake, and we've all
at one time or another mumbled that silent prayer:
"C'mon baby please start! One more time for daddy!"
Also I use a removable ground wire so there's no power draw while
parked on the trailer.
Lastly, I recommend a "Battery Tender" that keeps the battery
fully trickle charged 24/7. If you're concerned of "cooking" the battery
on the charger, plug the charger into a programmable timer so you
can set it to charge for only an hour or two per day.
"Tenders" are inexpensive $30-$40 and can be found at most
motorcycle accessory shops. I use 'em on all my vehicles.

I use Optima gel cell marine blue top for cranking and yellow Deep cycle for stereo and acc. You must use a batt. isolator so as not to run down your blue battery while kicking it and jammin the tunes, but yet charge both when running at speed. ;)
In the short off season I use "Battery buddy" it keeps the batterys charged and won't smoke em. I also go out in the garage and crank the tunes now and them to keep the moisture burnt out of the deck and amps. It also helps keeping my neighbors hip with todays music, being that all my neighbors three houses in each direction are retired. :2purples: But they love me!
